Fed up seeing people driving whilst using the mobile

Out cycling, nearly knocked off my bike again by a driver using their mobile. Penalties are woefully inadequate. Only an instant ban is an adequate punishment, plus crush their vehicles if they drive whilst banned

I always sit upstairs on the bus. I see mots of drivers using mobile phones. Every single day

My ex (before me) had a girlfriend

they where talking on msm (?) and she said that she was going to stay at her mates house-but he kept her talking for about another hour

they finally said ‘goodbye’ and she got in her car

about halfway from hers to her mates house,a bloke who picked up a text while driving, drove onto the wrong side of the road-and crashed head-on into her car
she was killed instantly-the guy didn’t have a mark on him

the guilt will haunt my ex forever-it’s all the ‘what ifs’ that gets to him

the guy got 9 months for causing death by dangerous driving-9 months for causing a death

no text is worth it

I can't believe 30% of people have voted yabu. I'm not a cyclist, but it drives me nuts as a pedestrian and car driver - especially at junctions and roundabouts. I had a white van man crash into the side of my car while he was on his phone - mostly my fault as I was pulling out into a blind spot but rather than slowing down to avoid driving into me, he sped up.

Horrifying that over 30% of people think you are being unreasonable! Are they all (potential killers) on their mobiles>???

ivykaty44 · 12/10/2022 03:40

gogohmm A cyclist can be prosecuted for cycling wanton and furiously, which could cover speed or not paying attention, but this thread is about drivers illegally using mobile phones behind the wheel. It’s not illegal for cyclists or pedestrians to be using a mobile phone whilst they are travelling

I do think there's a big difference between talking on your phone when you're driving (legal where I live and easy to do safely in my opinion) and texting while driving (illegal where I live and rightly so).

They're more likely people who don't like cyclists and think they're always to blame

How the fuck am I being unreasonable.

Odd to ask if you don’t think you’re being unreasonable

Look at getting a HD camera for the bike. Many police forces will take forward video evidence if a certain quality and duration then put it forward for a prosecution.

Sadly the police is not funded well enough to go out actively catching drivers doing this. The more cyclists can record and put forward as evidence the more drivers we can collectively catch.

Any clips need to have the drivers numberplate and face.

I find a helmet cam does this better than one mounted on the handlebars 😜
