Old tattoo suddenly raised and itchy

Posting for traffic - I have a 10 year old tattoo on my wrist, all the lettering has raised, it's ref and itchy. So weird - had this happened to anyone else? What did you do?

Have you worn a new coat or jumper that might have irritated it?

Nope - felt a bit like I'd scratched myself, looked down and there it was!

I don't have experience in old tattoos but I'd probably get some decent moisturiser on it and take an antihistamine to see if it helps

Happens to me occasionally. My tattoo artist as advised that it can happen for several reason such as:
Heat
Allergic reaction requiring antihistamine aka even hay fever can potentially cause the body to react and tattoos can do this
Pregnancy

Generally anything can cause skin irritation can do this to a tattoo. Try taking an antihistamine?

This happened to me recently.
Apparently you develop an allergic reaction to the ink, even with years old tattoos!

I used an antihistamine cream on mine and it eventually went back to normal.

How strange! You'd think that after all these years that couldn't happen. Thanks all! Off to hunt down some antihistamines.

it happens to me every now and again if I have a histamine type reaction to something else. It's not caused by the tattoos, they are just where the irritation manifests most, I guess. Ditto what others say - antihistamines should help.

Happens to me too! I'm covered in tattoos. A couple are more problematic than others, as the poster above said anti histamine and also I personally find coco palmers lotion really helps too x
