To think this Indian restaurant manager was unreasonable? Or was I?

StarlightRobbery · 10/10/2022 13:02

Last night I ordered an Indian takeaway as a treat. When it arrived it was mostly ok, although the rice was cold and the sauce in one particular dish tasted slightly sour as if it was off. I didn’t eat that part of the meal.

I tried calling the restaurant three times but they only have a mobile number, no landline and it kept saying busy with beeps- I guess people ordering.

Anyways later on, I got a request/notification on the app to review my food, I gave it 3 stars and the app prompted me to select a few reasons why. I selected rice was cold. I didn’t type anything just clicked it and that was that.

This morning very loud knock on the door, go to the door and a very abrupt man says “is that Starlightrobbery?” And I said yes. And he preceded to tell me that he was the manager of the restaurant and that I’d tried to scam him for a refund. That there was no way that the rice was cold as it’s last bagged and I’m a fraud. That I basically were trying to just get a refund and he was sick of people pulling this sort of scam. I told him I was under no illusion I was even getting a refund and that indeed the rice was cold.

He asked why I didn’t call the restaurant and I said I tried. He then said I should’ve drove down there and I said I couldn’t, because I had small children in bed. He then proceeded again to call me a fraud before saying he was off to two other houses who had request refunds through “Deliveroo”! I didn’t even order from Deliveroo!

I stewed it over and friends I’ve told think it’s quite amusing but I actually think he’s being slightly unreasonable to come to my house and kick off like that. I now feel like leaving a proper review saying this is what he does- but then he might come back. Ugh!

Tbh I would've just microwaved the rice for a minute and not left a review at all. Low ratings really affect restaurants.

Omg, I didn't actually think anyone could think up an argument against this post, but there!!! Wow, just wow! 😂

Restaurant owner turna up at customers door, and it i

Frazzledmummy123 · 10/10/2022 17:26

*is her fault for not reheating the rice..jesus wept!

'Well, don't use them then". Lovely. As if he has a choice, trying to stay afloat, with all his bills going up - power, food supplies, rent. So sorry your rice was cold.

...and there's another idiot backing backing up a grown man turning up at a customer's door. MN really is a pit sometimes

This forum is bonkers. I swear it gets worse
The OP posts that she received a below par quality take away which she tries to complain about. Didn't ask for refund then indimidating bloke turns up at her house. Then according to some she is unreasonable and one person suggested, racist! Wtaf?
I would be furious if they'd have come to my door and I'd take it further. Completely and utterly unacceptable

Couldn't agree more. I can't believe there are actually people on here backing up the restaurant owner. Some total crazies on here.

tranquiltortoise · 10/10/2022 17:39

If you're brave enough I would be tempted to leave another review saying that the restaurant manager came to your door and shouted at you for leaving a bad review.

People should know that he is so aggressive and maybe it will put him off doing it again.

DWMoosmum · 10/10/2022 17:45

I'd call the police. That's downright intimidation.

Not everyone has a microwave.

After how this man has behaved, he doesn't deserve to stay in business. Appalling behaviour.

Sounds like the poor man is having a breakdown and is worried about his finances. I’d send a firm but concerned email outlining what happened, that his behaviour was inappropriate and that your concerned about his mental health.

No - he sounds like a nasty, aggressive bully.

greenhousegal · 10/10/2022 16:41

All this angst for a £2.90 portion of rice. But some people just have to be right and get their oar in.

Perfect gourmet food rarely comes from the local take away. I would have microwaved the rice and gobbled the meal all up, yum!

So, do you think that a) not microwaving/reheating the rice, and b) leaving a factual review about the food that was delivered (which also included an item that tasted sour/off) justifies an aggressive man turning up on a customer’s doorstep, @greenhousegal?

What is wrong here is not @StarlightRobbery‘s actions, but the actions of the restaurant manager - who accused her of requesting a refund, which she hadn’t done, and was going on to harangue two other unhappy customers on their doorsteps when he’d finished at her house! Frankly I can’t believe anyone is justifying (or even implying justification for) this man’s actions.

Emotionalsupportviper · 10/10/2022 18:33

ChilliBandit · 10/10/2022 17:15

Sorry, if I wanted to microwave my rice I’d buy a packet of supermarket rice.

Exactly @ChilliBandit

You pay £2-50 for10p's worth of rice,

The least they can do is make sure it's hot.

Rosehugger · 10/10/2022 19:14

No doubt they get out plates and cutlery too

Of course we do. Because the whole point of a take away from a restaurant it is that you are having a restaurant experience at home. I do not want to eat straight out of a take away box, that would be far less enjoyable. As if we'd got really nice food then gone to eat it in a branch of McDonald's. And how the fuck do you eat something in a sauce without cutlery?

Rosehugger · 10/10/2022 19:18

It wasn't just that the rice was cold. One dish didn't taste as good as usual.

MinnyMous · 10/10/2022 19:20

WeepingSomnambulist · 10/10/2022 13:05

Report him to whichever app you used.

They dont want to host restaurants who turn up at people's doors to tell at them.

Also, the restaurant are breaking GDPR. They cannot use your information like that. You're address is given for the delivery only. He cant turn up at your door. That is so intimidating. Fill out the police online form as he is harassing customers. They may not do anything and it dont usually say "go to the police" but I would let them know about this via the online form.

Good advice here.

No wonder rice is the most common cause of food poisoning when so many people really don’t understand that rice left to just cook to room temperature over an indeterminate length of time and then microwaved a bit once you get it is a risky prospect.

It's scary and frankly if anyone serves rice at a dinner party I'm swerving it.

KillerQueenGunpowderGelatine · 10/10/2022 19:59

YANB even vaguely U, and the people stating or implying you are are batshit insane.

Spendernone · 10/10/2022 20:00

I'd call the non urgent Police hotline and make a complaint so it's registered, they can then act if he ever came back a 2nd time or assist if they have had multiple complaints.

I'd also contact the local council and ask for advice as many provide trading licences for local takeaways.

worriedatthistime · 10/10/2022 21:48

Had a take away indian tonight and guess what they managed to send us hot rice , not an issue for most places

worriedatthistime · 10/10/2022 21:51

@greenhousegal you understand what a review is yes ? If a company wants only good ones then deliver good service and quality products
Take the bad ones and learn from them and improve
Its called running a business
Everything this manager has done is shocking and broken GDPR at the very least

worriedatthistime · 10/10/2022 21:56

@Crazykatie because they paid for a delivery and take Way not to have to do it themselves
Don't do deliveries if your business isn't up to it
We use take aways and never have cold ones , we once had another order, I called the company they said chuck it and they would send the correct order but would be a little wait as need to cook fresh again , fine no probs , they understand customer service

worriedatthistime · 10/10/2022 21:59

@Worriedandconfused23 I have struggled to get refunds from deliveroo for missing items had to write and complain as half my Morrison's goods were missing
Take awAys I always het fine through them but shopping always bits missing so I don't bother as been left out of pocket

Testingprof · 11/10/2022 20:12

sandytooth · 10/10/2022 15:13

I've had completely the wrong meal and declined a refund as the one I had was more expensive!

Did you get mine? The meal we received was substantially less than I ordered.
