Do you ever get annoyed about stupid things?

Lighthearted!

Was watching this cooking/travel program the other day and the bloke was given a piece of very mature cheese to try - I mean it was a few years mature - somewhat of a delicacy. The bloke dropped it and pulled the most stupid, gormless face afterwards. I can’t get over it! I was so incredibly annoyed by it and I’m thinking about it still days later and winding myself up about how annoying it was. Anyone else get like this? He was so dopey!! I really wish the cheese guy had told him tough shit, you dropped it now you go without.

Yes, loads of things that other people don't worry about.

Barelyable · 10/10/2022 10:27

All the time! I'm still fuming about a woman In the chemist that patronisingly told me that I was supposed to tell her that my prescription was from my earlier doctors appointment rather than a pre-ordered one. If she's said it properly I would t have battered an eyelid but it was though I was supposed to know that by osmosis or something. Annoyed me for days!!!

clpsmum · 10/10/2022 10:30

Oh all the time tbh such stupid things that affect my life in now way but piss me off all the same!

JOFFCV · 10/10/2022 10:36

Yes, some of the stuff I read on here really annoys me - you did say it was lighthearted.

The 🙄emoji annoys me.

Oh me too. I’m still annoyed about someone saying you have to go to Japan to get a black belt in karate. Such an idiotic thing to say!

Im also annoyed about the person who said she didn’t close the bathroom door when she goes to toilet as she doesn’t want to deal with a “heartbroken 2 year old” !!!?? Heartbroken?! Because the bog door is shut!? I think this was said about 2 years ago and it still annoys me

A lot less than I used to. I get really irritated with people who deny scientific realities but stupid things I can just let go. I probably do loads of stupid things myself.

SiliconHeaven · 10/10/2022 11:13

Years ago I worked in the housing department for a council. I received a letter from a doctor telling us that their elderly patient needed to be ‘housed in a bungalow with no stairs asap’
sounds like a fairly reasonable thing to ask apart from the woman in question owned her 4 bed £500k outright!
it annoys me even now thinking about it years later

Starlight86 · 10/10/2022 11:15

When people wait in a queue and dont have their money/card ready, or when people wait in a queue and then shout to their family "what drink do you want" or "does X want anything"

I absolutely despise queuing ( not because i think im more important) and anything that holds up a queue boils my blood.

Spelling errors annoy me. I have a friend who spent a few months working in New York and every email she sent she told me how great 'Manhatten' was and how she was 'so happy she came too NY!'
Don't get me started on apostrophes in plurals!

xogossipgirlxo · 10/10/2022 11:51

Nah, I don't, therefore I don't understand why I get 11 wrinkles. Small things don't make me angry. Stupidity- yes, but mostly I don't care.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 10/10/2022 11:56

Op I totally get you. Your post made me laugh 😂I feel like people make such a fucking FUSS of stuff. I remember being out with a friend having coffee and our babies, my baby would just take her bottle cool, Luke warm, whichever way, my friend made what I felt was a big show of getting hot water, to warm her babies bottle and then having a flap because she didn’t have the colic stick thing in it (one of those fancy Dr Browns bottles). I wanted to be like FFS just give the baby his milk so we can order cake ! Looking back she was struggling a bit and put a lot of emphasis on all her bits and bobs being right. Feel a bit mean now. Also when I worked in a shop and something would scan about 4p less or more than the usual price. People would go ON AND ON about it, who cares ?! 10p or more fair enough.

Bonjovispjs · 10/10/2022 11:58

Yep, just about everything and everybody annoys me at the moment, damn menopause

CulturePigeon · 10/10/2022 12:11

All the time! It's my hobby.

Copy-cat, pretentious language is a particular irritant. I have some weird triggers which rile me hugely, but very few people understand (!).

Eg: on menus ...in a wine sauce... (why not just 'wine sauce'? The 'a' is so pretentious - as if the chef has a massive repertoire of wine sauces at his fingertips, which I doubt).

'Let's get a coffee' - how about a cup of coffee or some coffee? That 'a' again. Can't explain it. I think, again, it suggests a huge choice of different varieties of coffee...

'Can I get a sandwich?' when said to a waiter. No, let the chef/waiter get you a sandwich...you mean 'Can I have a sandwich?' surely??

So very, very trivial, but I enjoy being annoyed by these things which affect me like grit in my shoe or an eyelash in my eye. I'm aware it may be an ASD thing.

AffIt · 10/10/2022 12:18

A Very Stupid Thing which is absolutely guaranteed to make me go absolutely batshit is when I leave a cupboard door slightly ajar, forget and then bang my head on it.

I will be PURE RAGING for hours and the fact that I am completely at fault doesn't soften the blow a bit.

CarmenBizet · 10/10/2022 12:22

When part of my clothing gets caught on a door handle and it stops me moving into the room. Always infuriates me. Feels so degrading to be prevented from moving about the premises I own by a piece of clothing!

I had a similar encounter in our local branch of Boots not long ago. Our Dog has developed itchy paws and the vet told me that we should buy him a certain type of over the counter antihistamine tablet- he advised on dosage etc. When I went in to ask for the tablets the person serving (not the pharmacist) asked the usual questions about who it's for/what other medication etc. When I honestly told her it was for the dog, but on advice from the vet she gave me a very loud lecture in front of a queue of people about how irresponsible it was to give human medication to animals, that they were not legally allowed to sell it for animal use, vets should really know not to tell people to but it, I shouldn't be putting her in this position, what if the dog has a reaction to it, really she should inform the pharmacist and they should report me etc etc. All of this might have been true, but I was just following advice from the vet so all she needed to say was 'sorry we can't sell medication for animals, you'll need to go back to your vet and see if they can help'.

purplepandas · 10/10/2022 12:40

You and me both @Bonjovispjs !

megletthesecond · 10/10/2022 12:40

Every hour of the day.

AnApparitionQuipped · 10/10/2022 12:40

Yes, often. What's worse is that I can still feel annoyed about stupid things that happened 40 years ago, if I'm reminded of them, and feel all the rage I felt at the time coupled with l'espirit de l'escalier!

Gotskeaswr · 10/10/2022 12:40

yes! But I’m very good about letting the big things go…

alloalloallo · 10/10/2022 12:41

Yes!

My daughter’s college currently has me raging - it’s not a small thing though, but we are currently in the process of applying for an assessment for a EHCP.

We’ve all uploaded our stuff to the hub, and in the notes college have added they’ve stated that DD does not have any SEN, while uploading a report from an assessment that they have carried out that states she has significant SEN - without all the evidence and diagnosis letters I’ve already uploaded.

It’s just stupid. If she is turned down because of that, I’ll be on the war path.

dudsville · 10/10/2022 12:52

I run on a short fuse from time to time and this thread made me giggle. My current example is filling in a referral. It's on line so i can't see the whole thing. "State your reason for referring", so i do. "When did it start?" See above. "What's been the impact on the person?" See above. "What do they hope for from our service" see above etc.,

The doorknob one posted above grates every time but was perfectly described by @CarmenBizet .

CarmenBizet · 10/10/2022 12:56

Also people who are deliberately obtuse and rude with it.

I went to see a specific orchestra the other night play in another city to their home city. For example the LSO playing in Newcastle. They are the resident orchestra of this other city so they play a lot.

I had a question about the programme and timings of pieces (so I could arrange travel) and so I called up the orchestra's publicly offered customer service number. I said 'hello, I just have a question about the LSO concert tonight'

'there is no LSO concert tonight' said with a tone of utter derision/purposeful confusion

'oh, are you sure? I have tickets to see them in Newcastle?'

'oh, Newcastle? You should have said. Yes, I'll put you through'

utterly dense. They thought because the LSO weren't playing London then I must be mistaken. So daft.

A post on here still hangs about at the back of my mind.
A pregnant poster on here had been to see a clairvoyant who told her to get an abortion and she asked if people thought she should do it.
I was incensed and my post was deleted
