To give buyers on Vinted poor feedback

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 08:42

If they are slow to mark goods as received?
I am really fed up of buyers receiving my stuff and then taking 9, 10, 14 days to mark as received. It means it takes nearly a month for me to get the money. Aibu to give those that do this a low star rating and comment that they were slow to mark goods as received?

@MichelleScarn if you use Royal mail and the cost is more than the postage specified, Vinted will refund you the difference if you upload the receipt. I think you go into your postage option to find out exactly how to do it.

motherofcatsandbears · 09/10/2022 09:55

Eek! I’ve bought off vented and didn’t realise this. Lesson learned.

Weepachu · 09/10/2022 09:56

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:49

@weepachu did you let buyer know that you weren't happy?
I haven't had anyone say they're unhappy and when buyers eventually do mark as received they always give 5* for my stuff. If someone was unhappy I would hope they would say so we could discuss and organise return and refund.

Yes on eBay I’d always go for a return but on Vinted I know it’s mostly mums just trying to make an extra few quid so I didn’t want to be mean and nickel and dime for a few low value items. But I was disappointed compared to the condition of other items I’d bought so I decided to let the Vinted process run it’s course to mark it as received and also not to leave feedback. Mostly very good though and a lot friendlier than eBay.

MichelleScarn · 09/10/2022 09:57

@purpleboy thanks so much for that!

RaininginDarling · 09/10/2022 10:12

I buy on Vinted. Its a bit of a lottery quality-wise so I really appreciate Vinted checking if everything is okay before releasing funds to the seller. I've bought a dozen things, two had to be sent back as one was clearly damaged and the other was sold as a 14 but I suspect was really a 22.

In both cases, the seller was motivated to solve the issue.

I always go on the app to log packages arriving but I notice, quite often, the app isn't quick to update so I press the "track package' button which usually refreshes the app to ask if the package was received.

I think leaving bad feedback without engaging with the other person first is really bad form.

Also, I don't think it's explicit that sellers only get paid when buyers acknowledge receipt - but why wouldn't you mark as received if the button is right there? I don't quite understand, when I first bought items I was nudged by email so realised it was the done thing.

No worries 😁

OldTinHat · 09/10/2022 10:25

I didn't know I had to do this either. Luckily, my first purchase was from a seller who communicated well and literally talked me through it from buy now to opening the parcel. She was brilliant! I would have had no idea otherwise.

I've bought a few things since and the sellers don't communicate at all. Do you message your buyers OP?

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 10:35

@Downandout01 it says

Order shipped
Delivered your order was delivered (tracking information)
Feedback added

So where do I mark as received?

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 10:36

It's only does this because you haven't marked as received so it's waited the 3 weeks and then assumed everything was OK.

I bought the item less than 3 weeks ago & it allocated positive feedback

Sunnyqueen · 09/10/2022 10:39

Vinted is absolutely shocking for both buyers and sellers. They are totally unclear on the processes on both sides. Probably on purpose I mean think of all the money they are making just off the interest of money for the items sitting in their bank. As a buyer or seller its totally hit and miss as to what experience you are going to have. Stick to ebay, much better.

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 10:40

Isn't this just an issue if you send with royal mail? If you use one of the couriers it is tracked and it marks it automatically as received and gives the buyer a couple of days to report any issues with the item then your money is released. I'd turn off the royal mail option if I were you.

This would explain why I've never had an notification.

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 10:42

@Downandout01 do you send everything tracked? I sell a lot on ebay & it used to be a condition of paypal that everything was sent tracked.

CaptainMerica · 09/10/2022 10:45

I think the vinted business model must include holding onto people's money for as long as possible.

It's the same as a buyer - about a third of the things I buy never get posted, and vinted keep my money for weeks until I get a refund.

I've been really put off it. I bought a dress for nearly £20 recently, and the seller messaged after a week to say they were on holiday and would post it when they got home. It auto-cancelled, and ended up getting messages from the seller having a go at me for leaving negative feedback (I didn't - it was automatic because they didn't post). It took a month for me to get my money back.

I think it's often a bad experience for both buyers and sellers.

SpinningFloppa · 09/10/2022 11:14

Tbh I prefer that vinted keep the money until the buyer says it’s ok maybe it will make people post a bit quicker I find vinted very slow for posting, unlike eBay where people usually post the next day most things I buy on vinted people take a week to even bother to post it. Why should they have someone’s money when they haven’t even posted the item?

BattenburgDonkey · 09/10/2022 11:41

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:39

I feel that the app sends you reminders so no excuse not to do it. Although take on board the point that not all buyers may realise seller doesn't get their money until they've done this- the app should make this clearer.
Like a PP I've got nearly £100 pending and I'm sick of it. I send via yodel tracked delivery so I know when it has been delivered.

My app doesn’t send me notifications because I don’t allow it to, plenty of people don’t allow notifications popping up on their phone all the time.

dottypencilcase · 09/10/2022 12:07

Sorry to derail but is vinted just for businesses or normal sellers too?

AFAIK businesses shouldn’t be selling on there at all. Just a second hand site for joe public.

Weirdwonders · 09/10/2022 09:06

I don’t know how buyers can claim they don’t know this is how it works. It’s explained when you set up your account. It’s just ignorance.

I agree. I would OP

InsomniacVampire · 09/10/2022 14:21

@Downandout01 If you are shipping with Yodel, it is entirely possible your buyers don't have the items when they are marked. I have had half a dozen situations over the last months when the courier would mark something as delivered when in fact it wasn't, and once I went to a click and collect shop after a few days after the supposed delivery, only for the sales assistant to spend 10 minutes looking for the parcel, and then met the courier with my stuff at the door. 5 days after the delivery. I cant understand why anyone would pick these conmen to deliver anything.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 09/10/2022 14:22

YANBU. Particularly as the app is very clear that the seller doesn’t get the money until they mark it as delivered.

It varied SO wildly though. I’ve never had a problem with either Yodel or Hermes.

InsomniacVampire · 09/10/2022 14:25

@Poppyseed14 Not quite- depending where the delivery takes palce to- with couriers it marks as delivered to click and collect for example, and then when the buyer collects it. Similar with Inpost lockers. You have three days to get it from the locker, but I had a message from the seller 2 hours after it was delivered to check if I picked it up already. The system marks it as picked up from either store or locker. But buyers stil need to confim they picked it up, then if there are issues.

How is it clear?

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 14:26

If you collect from an Evri shop do you still need to confirm in the app?

It does. I hadrly have any good deliveries with Yodel in my area and overal they dont have a great reputation, neither does Hermes aka Evri, but they seem decent in my neck of the woods.
Was just saying that it is very possible the items are not delivered when they were supposedly delivered, so buyers wil not click to say they have it if they don't. Also, as some say, you can disable reminders (and Vinted sends a shedloads of these daily, it's super annoying), so easy to miss these.
