To give buyers on Vinted poor feedback

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 08:42

If they are slow to mark goods as received?
I am really fed up of buyers receiving my stuff and then taking 9, 10, 14 days to mark as received. It means it takes nearly a month for me to get the money. Aibu to give those that do this a low star rating and comment that they were slow to mark goods as received?

Yes, this is definitely the downside of Vinted as opposed to say ebay. Once I have bought something I don't want to have to be remembering whether I have marked it as received etc, and then worrying if I'm going to get negative feedback because my 'shopping admin' isn't up to date!

dreamersdown · 09/10/2022 09:19

YAMBU. Sometimes I know I’m going to be away for a couple of days so I’ll have things delivered to a local shop. Vinted is an absolute lottery as to a) whether the item is actually still available b) when the seller will actually sell and c) how long it will take to arrive, so sometimes I’m simply not around to pick it up immediately.

Rainallnight · 09/10/2022 09:20

I’m a new Vinted buyer and had absolutely no idea that this was the case until I saw a thread about it on here.

Just send them a quick message explaining you don’t get paid till they mark it as received and could they please do it asap.

BattenburgDonkey · 09/10/2022 09:23

YABU, you’d be better off leaving vinted themselves poor feedback. Buyer might not receive the items quickly, but also if the courier has marked the item as delivered and even taken a photo, it’s daft that Vinted don’t release the money at that point, and that’s a vinted flaw not a buyer flaw. Also I’ve bought in vinted but never sold and I didn’t realise until I saw a very similar thread to this one a few weeks ago that vinted didn’t release the money to sellers so it’s not like all your buyers will no they need to do this.

WhatsitWiggle · 09/10/2022 09:23

The Vinted app can be slow to update. I try to collect the parcel the same day it's delivered, check it as soon as I'm home, but when I go into the app it still says tracking delivery. It only updates the next day to let me say I've received, so then I have to remember to go back in.

If you only buy and never sell, you may not be aware there's a delay with getting the money.

eltonjohnsglasses · 09/10/2022 09:29

where do you mark as received?

Often people want to check the goods are genuine as there is a lot of fake on vinted.

Poppyseed14 · 09/10/2022 09:38

Isn't this just an issue if you send with royal mail? If you use one of the couriers it is tracked and it marks it automatically as received and gives the buyer a couple of days to report any issues with the item then your money is released. I'd turn off the royal mail option if I were you.

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:39

I feel that the app sends you reminders so no excuse not to do it. Although take on board the point that not all buyers may realise seller doesn't get their money until they've done this- the app should make this clearer.
Like a PP I've got nearly £100 pending and I'm sick of it. I send via yodel tracked delivery so I know when it has been delivered.

OP posts:
Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:41

Also just to add I'm happy to wait 3 days or so post delivery as appreciate people are busy, life is busy. But 9,10 days is just a p*ss take.

OP posts:
Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:42

@poppyseed I didn't know that- that is interesting. I send my stuff custom option via Yodel as no printer at home so need option to print label in store and the stores nearest me only do yodel for that

@duchess I'm selling supermarket brand kids and baby clothes mostly... not designer. Are people really checking if an item is genuine M&S baby grow or genuine George?

OP posts:
Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:43

@eleltonjohnsglasses in the chat conversation that opens when you purchase something. Go into your messages on app to find the conversation with the buyer re item you've purchased.

I've left my first review this morning that wasn't 5 star for this very reason. The tracking never changed to show received, even now it shows as ready for collection. On day 6 after it being ready for collection I dropped her a message just asking to let me know when she had collected as the tracking didn't appear to be working. No reply. Day 8 I contacted vinted to ask how long she has to collect, they contacted the buyer and asked her to contact me within 24 hours. No reply. I contact vinted again and on day 10 they change the status to delivered.
If she didn't collect it until day 9/10 then fine but why couldn't she have replied back to me saying she's planning on collecting then? She's been online a lot.

puddingandsun · 09/10/2022 09:44

I like how on eBay you can't give a negative feedback to a buyer as long as they pay promptly.

I'm too careful to give honest, bad feedback to a seller who mis- described their item because they may leave me bad review back.

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:45

@mummyh2016 very good of you to do so much to-ing and fro-ing. I just don't understand why it's so hard for someone to respond to a) reminders sent by app or b) to message sent by seller first time round.

Weepachu · 09/10/2022 09:45

YABU. I know I waited for Vinted to auto mark it as received as the items I received were not in the condition advertised, but I didn’t want to open a case as it was under £10. I wasn’t happy so I wasn’t going to rush to get the funds released for the disappointing seller…

Yeah but it doesn't spell out why you should do it. "Give feedback" seems optimal rather than "if you don't do this the buyer won't get their cash".

Also the app gives me notifications all the time for stuff, I tend to ignore them.

tackling · 09/10/2022 09:46

That should say optional, not optimal Grin

I've just started using Vinted recently and have wondered this myself. I've sold 7 things already and as I post via Royal Mail I've had to spend £20 out of my own pocket until I can get the money back which is a bit annoying. I can't really complain though as it's my own choice to send through them but it's only because I don't have a printer at home so can't print off the labels for the likes of Evri etc.

I understand the reasoning behind sellers not being given access to the money straight away after a sale and I definitely wouldn't leave someone a bad review without asking them first. At least give them a chance, they might have just forgotten etc. The only thing I don't agree with is the length of time between the item being sent and Vinted releasing the money on the buyers behalf if they've forgotten to press received. It's nearly a month. I posted something yesterday and a message came through to say they would release the money after November 7th if buyer forgets.

I've just sold my first item and it was with royal mail. Vimted gave me. £2.71 for it but it cost me over £4! Am going to change mine to evri only as much cheaper!

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:49

@weepachu did you let buyer know that you weren't happy?
I haven't had anyone say they're unhappy and when buyers eventually do mark as received they always give 5* for my stuff. If someone was unhappy I would hope they would say so we could discuss and organise return and refund.

The app seems to give auto feedback for me too:

It's only does this because you haven't marked as received so it's waited the 3 weeks and then assumed everything was OK. If you mark as received when you get it then you get the chance to do your own feedback.

To those asking where the option is to mark as recd then it's on the message thread where it gives all the other info about the item e.g. says you've bought it successfully etc. There should be a red number on the app to show you if you have unread messages and the unread messages themselves have a darker green background. Plus if you have notifications enabled on your phone it comes up to tell you to do it

Op I agree its really annoying but I think you'd have to at least message them yourself asking them to do it first. If they still don't then you could mark them down 1 or 2 stars and say why in the comments.

Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:51

@michellescarn that's another reason I opt for custom postage and send with yodel. It is 2.79 to send up to 1kg and most clothing items or even several items together won't go above this. Makes sure you're not left out of pocket if you don't have weighing scales at home. Plus can print label in shop.

OP posts:
Downandout01 · 09/10/2022 09:51

Fair point @tacktackling I would like the app to say- mark as delivered to pay the buyer

Maybe that would ensure buyers did it faster

YABU it's a downside to the Vinted business model for sellers, but a lot of buyers either don't realise it works this way or are prone to forget because a £2.50 pair of kid's jeans is waaay down their list of things to think about and it's very easy to genuinely forget that there's another step to follow up on when you buy on the Vinted platform. I understand it's frustrating for you but it's unrealistic to expect buyers to prioritise this in the same way that you do. If you start leaving negative feedback for people who are not malicious but simply busy and/or forgetful then you'll just get a load of bad feedback in return.

If you don't like the business model then sell on another platform.
