To think Qantas are shit

Flew Perth to London with them after coming back from holiday a few days ago. They lost all our luggage on the way back and seem completely unwilling to help. They don’t answer their phones, they don’t answer emails. I even contacted their PR team and received a reply asking for our booking reference and other details and they said once they had these details they would be back in touch within 24 hours and then nothing since and no response to my follow up emails. Customer service didn’t respond whatsoever and the PR team didn’t respond despite me providing the details that they asked for. Aibu to be pissed off with Qantas for this? Qantas were good before Covid!! I thought they we’re supposed to be the best of the best to fly to Australia with but obviously not

This is really bad OP! I would advise you to get on Twitter and facebook and start naming and shaming them! I think they even have a legal obligation to pay compensation for lost baggage?

malmi · 08/10/2022 12:00

What does it say in the baggage portal, presumably you logged a case at the airport?

Kingstonmumof1 · 08/10/2022 16:31

They have become completely awful during covid, non existent customer service, literally need to hold for hours to speak to someone.

BigChesterDraws · 08/10/2022 16:50

It may not have been Qantas that lost the bags. At some airports they used sun-contracted baggage handlers/partner airline handlers where they don’t have their own baggage handlers.

knockyknees · 09/10/2022 12:48

Qantas has been shit for many, many years - way before Covid19 came along.

KimberleyClark · 09/10/2022 14:32

They are shit. When DH phoned them they about three hours to answer the phone and just as they did DH’s phone battery died.

I’ve never rated Qantas or BA. When I lived in Melbourne I always flew with Singapore Airlines, they are great!

mountainsunsets · 09/10/2022 17:17

Qantas used to be really good but they've been going downhill for ages.

We have family in Australia and used to fly Qantas until they partnered up with BA. Nowadays we fly Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific and both are really good.

That’s hardly op’s problem, how they run their business is their problem. Her contract is with Quantas, to deliver her family and its luggage to their destination.

TheCatsPyjamas1 · 09/10/2022 17:29

Oh gosh, really sorry OP, that’s so annoying. Can you go to the papers with this? You could email one of the consumer advice or money columns where readers send in queries - the Sunday Times, Guardian and Daily Mail all have one.

OnanotherPier · 09/10/2022 17:30

Were you on the direct flight or did you go via somewhere?

Regardless - it's the weekend and they aren't as fully staffed on the weekend, plus like every other airline in the industry, right now, due to covid they are seriously understaffed.

Did you log it at the airport when you arrived?

OnanotherPier · 09/10/2022 17:32

Don't be stupid - do you know how many people are losing bags at the moment? They are most likely in Heathrow airport - have you seen the news recently on the bags issue at Heathrow? This very probably has absolutely nothing to do with Qantas at all, but the baggage handling companies.

People lose their bags all the time and don't go running to the newspapers.

pompomdaisy · 09/10/2022 18:59

It will be the airport rather than the airline to be honest. I travelled for 3 months around south east Asia in 1996 and Heathrow lost my bag at my last stop! They returned it later that night!

Yeah me too! The crew on SQ were just so lovely to the kids. BA and Qantas were mean as hell.

StartupRepair · 11/10/2022 03:36

Qantas has gone dramatically downhill since Covid. They were given hundreds of millions to retain their staff and basically kept the money and sacked the staff. I her every day of dreadful stories of lost luggage, cancelled flight, tickets not issued properly and no customer service follow up. Good luck OP that does indeed sound shit.

BaruFisher · 11/10/2022 03:38

QANTAS are absolutely awful, they’re losing baggage even on domestic flights at the moment. We’re going on holiday from Queensland to Tasmania next week and paid extra to fly Virgin, no way I was risking QANTAS cancellations and luggage losses.

For the long flights between Aus and U.K./ Ireland we always use Singapore, Qatar or Emirates. None of the others measure up.

Backofthenet20 · 11/10/2022 03:48

I flew KLM in June through Amsterdam. They lost my case, got it back last week. No compensation & they even closed their phone lines to check status. I also had to pay twice for a seat upgrade. I complained & the complaint was rejected. Thoroughly disappointed

MrsMorrisey · 11/10/2022 03:51

Yep and run by an arsehole too.
Will never fly with them again.
