To be devastated over lost luggage (BA)

British Airways has lost my luggage. It has now been nearly a month and my luggage is still missing.

I have very little left to wear. My tablet is gone as well as my little one's clothing and shoes.

All these items can be replaced, and maybe I am not as bothered as I should be, but some items in my luggage are irreplacable and I am devastated that they have been lost.

My mother lives in Canada and I live in the UK. She lives alone and was having a terrible time during the Covid crisis. She kept herself calm by knitting cute outfits and a blanket for my little girl despite her bad eyesight and aching joints. She was sending me photos of her progress which I have included below.

Now all these items are lost. I can make a claim with BA but they are asking me for receipts. Needless to say, I have none.

It just feel so angry and sad. My little girl never even got a chance to wear any of the outfits her grandmother made.
I really don't know what to do.

I'm a bit in love with that blanket!
So glad you've been reunited with your luggage.

Will they be offering any compensation? You probably don't want any as you'll just be so glad to have your stuff back. I was just wondering.

Excellent news! You must be so relieved 😌.

Great news. Tip for those who don’t know it. When you get your baggage tag, there are usually two or three little strips of sticky paper with the same barcode on them. Peel them off the label and stick them on other parts of your bag. This way, if the main bag tag is lost, there is still a way to trace the bag back to you.

I was going to say the same as @averageavocado - I had a friend who came to stay from the US and the airline lost her case - she told them she needed businesswear as she'd travelled for work, and I forget how much they gave her, but it was very generous. And that was on the knowledge that her case was only temporarily mislaid, definitely not lost, but she needed the clothes faster than they could get the case to her. So definitely claim for replacements!

Oh DAMN sorry, I started reading this thread about an hour ago and when I picked it up I forgot I hadn't finished it, got right up to your second post and stopped OP Grin Delighted to see the update though! (Just a shame you didn't rinse BA for funds for a new tablet and wardrobe before it turned up!)

L0bstersLass · 11/11/2022 09:46

How lovely! I bet you can hardly believe it. The outfits are so sweet and the blanket is gorgeous.
Delighted for you.

I am so sorry! Your mum is so talented!

keep chasing BA, post on their social networks, email, send them these pictures — keep the pressure on them to find it.

Yes. Absolutely keep chasing them and use whatever sm channels to bring it to their attention.
Very upsetting and really hope you find then.
Also keep in mind the process of your mum making those items will have given her a lot of pleasure even if they aren't used. I know it's still awful but it isn't a complete waste

Pamlar · 11/11/2022 09:59

Sorry didn't read your update

What a lovely update OP, great news!

We are purchasing Air Tags for future trips to pop in our luggage.

WaltzingWaters · 11/11/2022 10:05

Slightly hilarious that there’s an advertisement for BA on a thread about BA losing all your luggage!

Sorry OP. Those are gorgeous items, very precious, you DM is very talented. I really hope Your luggage is found 💐

Oh such great news!! Did you have to go to any extreme lengths to get it back or did it eventually jutsvfoler through the airport/iarline lost luggage system? You're mum is very talented. Order some air tags or similar now and put in the case!

I retrieved my son's expensive guitar last week from train station lost property when they insisted it wasn't there. I was showing them on the phone going yes it is look, go and look again!

Now that your bag is here,

please remember for the future that you are not supposed to check irreplaceable items (or electronics, medication, or non-costume jewelry). Lovingly handmade items need to be in your hand luggage.
