Cleaning a shoe in the sink

Slinkyminky22 · 07/10/2022 15:49

Please help settle a "debate".

Where should the sole of a sticky school shoe be scraped and cleaned?
Kitchen sink or bathroom sink/bath?

(Maybe it would preferably be a utility sink but we have none)

For voting sake:
YABU = kitchen sink
YANBU = bathroom sink/bath

Scraped outside, then rinsed under the kitchen tap if needed. I'm perplexed by people being "eww" about a sink getting dirty. Maybe I've not being using my sink properly. I thought it was for cleaning things in.

Not everyone has 6ft+ bathrooms (isn't that how far poo particles travel?). Many old British homes are tiny with poky bathrooms.
That's why you put the lid down when you flush.

Lol. I don’t have a 6+ft bathroom either. Which is why I’m even more careful with the towels.

There's different types of "dirty", though isn't there. Dog poo/contaminated soil and food particles have different bacterias. One is far more harmful if particles/spores are consumed. Why would anyone want to introduce poo pathogens/particles to the sink that plates and cutlery are also washed?

Oh I don't wash dishes directly in the sink. I use a plastic basin for that. Most people I know do it that way. And I know some people wash their dishes under the running tap rather than sitting them in water (but that's more wasteful in my mind). But the sink being dirty isn't an issue either way.

Do you rinse raw chicken juices off a chopping board or knife. Those bacteria ridden juices can be extremely dangerous.

I just don't get the different types of toxic ... it needs cleaning whatever gets washed or cleaned in there.

I'd use the kitchen because it's best balance of size and ease of cleaning. Bathroom one is too small, bath is more of a hassle to wash, kitchen is a good size and easy to clean.

I don't understand what people are expecting to do with their sinks that means you couldn't put a boot in one and just clean it after

FirewomanSam · 09/10/2022 10:52

I’d do it in the bath. But we rarely use the bath for ourselves (we have a shower in our en suite) so I wouldn’t find it gross to do so. The bath is mainly used by the dog!

CaronPoivre · 09/10/2022 10:57

Boot room or external tap but since sinks can usually be cleaned pretty effectively with modern products, I wouldn’t get overly distressed about using any sink unless it was a small hand basin where mud or whatever would spray over the rest of the Sometimes we use the washing machine.

Use whichever sink. You won’t die.

Clevs · 09/10/2022 11:21

Outside tap/hosepipe if one is available. If not then a bucket of water. If it's raining then just wait until it stops. Or leave the shoe upside down in the rain to start the softening process before you clean it properly.

unsync · 09/10/2022 12:19

I wash dog's bowls in the dishwasher so shoes are utility room or kitchen.

MyPenIsHuge · 10/10/2022 09:57

Raw chicken and stuff go in kitchens bleh they can be cleaned

I use the bathroom sink only because it's shallower and I have a bad back.

CapMarvel · 10/10/2022 10:03

Utility sink just because we have one and it's convenient, but otherwise just use the kitchen sink and then clean it afterwards.

RincewindsHat · 10/10/2022 11:30

If no poo, kitchen sink, then cleaned with bleach spray or antibac or whatever.

Chouetted · 10/10/2022 11:42

I'd do it in the bath because the handheld shower makes for easier cleanup afterwards, and my kitchen sink isn't very big - but nothing wrong with using the sink if yours is big enough.

AdoraBell · 17/11/2022 12:11

I would do it outside rather than kitchen or bathroom. If outside isn’t possible then whichever sink you use I would scrub with disinfectant.

stuntbubbles · 17/11/2022 12:15

Kitchen because it’s bigger and therefore easier to contain contamination/grossness. Kitchen sink also bigger and easier to clean. No plastic washing-up bowl here though – I’d think doing it in that is more gross, somehow? Maybe because I hate them.
