Cleaning a shoe in the sink

Slinkyminky22 · 07/10/2022 15:49

Please help settle a "debate".

Where should the sole of a sticky school shoe be scraped and cleaned?
Kitchen sink or bathroom sink/bath?

(Maybe it would preferably be a utility sink but we have none)

For voting sake:
YABU = kitchen sink
YANBU = bathroom sink/bath

I couldn’t care less. Just clean the sink after.

Aggypanthus · 07/10/2022 16:18

If its dogdirt you need the butter knife. Scrape all the poo out and then wipe the knife with your t shirt and put it back in the drawer.
That's what the Royle family did.

Outside tap with a stick, rinsing until visibly clean then soak outside in say a garage in bleach water.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 07/10/2022 16:19

Kitchen sink. Don't have a utility sink. Kitchen sink or ANY sink can be washed afterwards so really don't see what the issue is with using wherever is most convenient for you.

KimberleyClark · 07/10/2022 16:31

I voted YANBU but in my case it would be utility kroom sink.

BeyondMyWits · 08/10/2022 07:58

My kitchen sink is used for all sorts, including cleaning raw chicken juices from a chopping board and knife. (the sort of thing that gets done in most kitchens I'd have thought)

A bit of sticky stuff off a shoe is probably less "dangerous".

Cleaning the sink afterwards is what is important.

Scepticalwotsits · 08/10/2022 08:00

For DH rugby boots it’s bashed and scraped off outside then cleaned in the bath.

old place had a bidet which was perfect for boot cleaning

Whiskers4 · 08/10/2022 08:15

Anything disgusting would be rinsed outside and rubbed with old cloth/toothbrush. Otherwise most convenient sink, clean and disinfect/antibac after.

Mamamia7962 · 08/10/2022 08:28

Reminds me of the episode from the Royale Family when Barbara is cleaning dog crap off a shoe in the kitchen sink with one of the knives they eat their dinner with!

Eurgh minging to do it in the kitchen. What is wrong with people 🤢.
It’s not just about the sink but the area surrounding and any clippings going locally or spray from any dirty water.
I also don’t put towels near the toilet because of atomised piss and shit. When you can smell poop that’s tiny little particles of poop getting into your nose. You are all welcome to think about that with your breakfast 🙇‍♀️

BookedOut · 08/10/2022 08:32

Kitchen sink. It’s bigger and no risk of splashing on to toothbrushes or any other things that aren’t easily wipe cleanable, as there’s no clutter around it.

Keto4teeth · 08/10/2022 08:36

Either. There is poo in the bathroom and raw chicken in the kitchen. It all needs a thorough clean.
Generally though I'd do it outside even if it's raining. Heavy rain usually peaks for 5 to 20 minutes and then it's just a dribble. Take the worst off with wipes and leave aside until you can go out to clean it outside.

Not everyone has 6ft+ bathrooms (isn't that how far poo particles travel?). Many old British homes are tiny with poky bathrooms.
That's why you put the lid down when you flush.

billy1966 · 08/10/2022 08:41

Outside.

If not out side, in an old basin bowl.

Nowhere near a sink.

AlwaysLatte · 08/10/2022 08:42

It depends what was on it, but I usually use wet wipes over the bin for the soles. Rugby boots I do in the utility sink but if there wasn't one I'd use the outside tap.

GrumpyPanda · 08/10/2022 08:45

Outside or utility but given your choices just whichever is least likely to clog up - ime that means kitchen. Make sure there's a good sieve in as well.

Afterfire · 08/10/2022 08:46

Kitchen sink. We live rurally and go on a lot of country walks and often have muddy shoes after stepping in god knows what. Always washed them in the kitchen sink as it’s bigger. No one’s died yet! People are so precious about these things. A good clean with some anti bacterial stuff afterwards is fine. To be fair though we don’t wash up - we have a dishwasher.

NCHammer2022 · 08/10/2022 08:46

It’s a sink, you clean the sink. It doesn’t matter. Neither is it “minging” - because it’s a sink, for cleaning. And you clean the sink afterwards.

Blanketpolicy · 08/10/2022 08:50

Kitchen sink. It is steel surrounded by worktop and can be so easily cleaned after I really do not see the problem. It is scary how normal every day tasks bring out extreme germ phobia in some.

I also don’t put towels near the toilet because of atomised piss and shit. When you can smell poop that’s tiny little particles of poop getting into your nose.

You are taliking crap (excuse the pun). It is the gases associated with poo you smell, not actual poo particles.

cushioncovers · 08/10/2022 10:32

Stepped in dog shit? Then outside sink or tap.
General dirt kitchen sink.

Handoverthechocollate · 08/10/2022 10:34

Outside tap/bucket. No brainer.

Poppins2016 · 08/10/2022 10:38

Of those two options are the only available, then I'd use the kitchen sink.

I often use the my 'outdoor use' bucket for this kind of job, then tip it down down the outside drain (and flush with clean water if necessary). I also keep old cleaning sponges for this sort of job, they get used for extra dirty stuff and then finally thrown away.

Poppins2016 · 08/10/2022 10:38

*If those

(Need an edit button 🙄)

Poppins2016 · 08/10/2022 10:41

Totally agree with those who say that you just clean the sink afterwards and there's no issue! This kind of thing is one of the few occasions I consider disinfectant necessary, though... Usually I just use hot water and detergent for wiping surfaces down.

HeavensEmbroideredCloths · 08/10/2022 10:45

In the bath, I know sinks can be cleaned it just seems eeeurrgghhh.
