Cleaning a shoe in the sink

Slinkyminky22 · 07/10/2022 15:49

Please help settle a "debate".

Where should the sole of a sticky school shoe be scraped and cleaned?
Kitchen sink or bathroom sink/bath?

(Maybe it would preferably be a utility sink but we have none)

For voting sake:
YABU = kitchen sink
YANBU = bathroom sink/bath

I have literally never cleaned a shoe in either sink.

saraclara · 08/10/2022 10:50

Kitchen sink. My bathroom one is too small for that kind of job.

As someone else said, a sink is a sink. It's the level of cleaning afterwards that seems to be your problem.

Slinkyminky22 · 07/10/2022 15:56

The clean-up was putting kitchen roll down in the sink to catch the scrapings, then binning it afterwards. I should have said that.

This seems a good solution to me.

megletthesecond · 08/10/2022 10:53

Neither.
Outside. I use old ice cream tubs and old toothbrushes for that sort of thing.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 08/10/2022 10:53

In the bath, and I would know because in winter I spend half my life leaning over poking football shoes and running shoes with an old skewer to dislodge clarts and grass. The bath looks like a dirty protest by the time they are done, so I wouldn't attempt it at the basin.

namechangetheworld · 08/10/2022 10:55

Literally any sink can be cleaned afterwards so it doesn't matter. I've probably used all of the sinks in our house for this at some point.

honeylulu · 08/10/2022 10:56

Bucket outside back door then lob the water and debris on the flower beds.
I'm not a clean freak and I agree sinks can be cleaned and disinfected but why give yourself the extra work?

justanothermanicmonday21 · 08/10/2022 11:13

Kitchen sink just because it's bigger, would then be cleaned after.

triedeyes · 08/10/2022 11:17

Bathroom sink. The people saying kitchen sink are probably the ones that also think it's fine to put a loo brush in the dishwasher.

Wafflesnsniffles · 08/10/2022 11:19

Outside tap.

Wafflesnsniffles · 08/10/2022 11:20

If its pouring with rain...........Id wait for it not to be raining!

stayathomer · 08/10/2022 11:21

Why does it matter? You’ll be scrubbing the sink and sterilising with boiling water after so no difference surely?

Pinkittens · 08/10/2022 11:21

Eurgh, definitely not the kitchen sink! Shoes step in all sorts and can spray bacteria spores. Why put something like that somewhere that mingles with things you eat off?

stayathomer · 08/10/2022 11:23

I have literally never cleaned a shoe in either sink.
laughing here now as I’ve just realised I never have either, has always just been outside and it’s not something that happens regularly!!

Ewww no. Of course not!

CheezePleeze · 08/10/2022 11:34

Scrape it over the bin, then use any sink you want.

CheezePleeze · 08/10/2022 11:36

How is "Outside tap" and answer to the question...

Where should the sole of a sticky school shoe be scraped and cleaned?
Kitchen sink or bathroom sink/bath?

The OP hasn't said she has an outside tap? Confused

LindaEllen · 08/10/2022 11:37

So long as you don't do what my ex once did, which was clean dog shit off his shoe in the sink next to a drying rack of freshly washed dishes USING THE BRUSH FOR THE DISHES - splashing the dog shit onto them and then just leaving them - I'd say use whatever sink you like as long as you clean if after.

N.B. He was an ex for many reasons, and that was one of the mildest!

LondonQueen · 08/10/2022 11:38

Utility or Kitchen, doesn't really matter because I would clean it afterwards.

Lolalime · 08/10/2022 11:45

Plastic bucket away from any sinks lol

QueenCamilla · 08/10/2022 12:04

I also don’t put towels near the toilet because of atomised piss and shit. When you can smell poop that’s tiny little particles of poop getting into your nose.

My ex husbands poop particles travelled via the gap under the bathroom doors down two flights of stairs, round the corner into the living room where these particles created a cumulus cloud over the sofa and hit my nostrils.
All the men on Tinder are someone's exes for a reason.... 😐

kingtamponthefurred · 08/10/2022 12:05

Outdoors, using a hose with a spray gun head to get all the muck off and flush it down the outside drain. If you don't have an outdoor space, soak the offending sole in a shallow tray of soapy water for a bit and scrape the mess carefully into the bin.

@LindaEllen That is a perfect illustration of why I'd never share a home with a man again.

SirenSays · 08/10/2022 12:09

Neither. Over a carrier bag with old toothbrush for scrubbing. Unless you need lots of water, then I'd just use outdoor tap/hose.

AloysiusBear · 08/10/2022 12:19

A sink is for washing dirty things and is easily cleaned.doesnt matter. I do think jf there's a concern that there's dog shit, you need to hose it off outdoors first.

In our house its more likely to be the kitchen sink because we buy antibacterial fairy and its easier to clean the sink quickly afterwards.
