Help! Covid cert for travel to Spain

Lilifer · 06/10/2022 22:20

Hi sorry it's not really Aibu but am panicking so posting in aibu for traffic as going to Spain a week from tomorow and my booster dates back to December 2021 - does that mean it's expired and I'll need another booster to get in to Spain?? I hadn't planned on getting a 4th dose, and I haven't even been called up for one yet (I am 53) my current cert status is showing as "active" so does that mean it hasn't expired and will be ok for travel??

Boosters currently have no expiry date so 3 doses counts as fully vaccinated

doodlyfiddly · 06/10/2022 22:23

At the moment, the booster as a third vaccination has no expiry date, so don't worry. You'll be fine to travel to Spain.
Your Covid vaccination certificate has a longer expiry date than it used to as well (used to only last a month I think).

Krakinou · 06/10/2022 22:25

I doubt you’ll be asked. I have entered Spain 3 times in the last 12 months and not been asked once.

chocolateisavegetable · 06/10/2022 23:01

No you don’t need another booster but you COULD be asked to show proof you’ve had 2 vaccinations

We were not asked either on our visit a few weeks ago but there was a health checker there at the gate when we all came in and he was asking other people for their vaccination papers. Perhaps its a lottery?

Abouttimemum · 06/10/2022 23:31

There’s no expiry on the booster, so you’ll be fine.

Lilifer · 06/10/2022 23:32

Oh thanks all that's a huge relief! 👏🏻👏🏻😊

Just come back from a cruise round Spain. We were asked by the boat to take covid vax proof with us whenever we got off the boat. No one ever asked to see anything, we never had to wear a mask on transport or in shops, cars etc. No one seemed bothered. I couldn't tell the difference between here and home, tbh.

unicornflakegirl · 06/10/2022 23:46

I live in Spain. They have recently stopped the requirement for visitors to fill in a covid health form but you may be asked vaccine status in the airport, and to prove that the name on your vaccine certificate matches your passport.
Masks are compulsory on public transport including taxis, in the last few weeks I've been in Madrid, Barcelona and Bilbao and this was enforced (and mostly complied with).

chocolateisavegetable · 07/10/2022 08:20

@unicornflakegirl is it still the case that you have to also wear a mask in medical settings including chemists?

stickygotstuck · 07/10/2022 08:24

In August checks of vaccination proof at the airport was random, one out of every 20 people or so.

Does anyone know if teens need to have had a booster to be considered fully vaxed in Spain, or are the two original doses enough?

BigSandyBalls2015 · 07/10/2022 08:26

I haven’t had a booster and I was fine going to spain in Feb.

chocolateisavegetable · 07/10/2022 08:27

2 vaccinations is what you need

quietnightmare · 07/10/2022 08:28

I went to Spain they asked me to see proof I went to get it up on my phone and before I did the security just said ok and let me through

unicornflakegirl · 07/10/2022 09:46

@chocolateisavegetable yes, masks are still needed in pharmacies too.

pigsducksandchickens · 07/10/2022 09:50

Sorry to hijack the thread, but I too am heading off to Spain shortly and wondered about this 'you need to prove you have access to x amount of money' lark. I will have proof but do they check that too?

JudgeRindersMinder · 07/10/2022 09:52

@chocolateisavegetable if you had your 2nd more than 270 days ago you need a third

Went to Spain last month and wasn't asked about this at all. We did have to show vax passports though, at the border.

FirewomanSam · 07/10/2022 09:57

The wording is very confusing in some places and my sister had the same panic recently. But you’re actually fine.

If you have only had TWO doses (and no booster) then your second dose can’t have been more than 270 ago. If you have had two doses + a booster then there’s no time limit.

She didn’t even get asked in the end but get your Covid passes in the NHS app anyway and you’ll be fine either way.

Useitorloseit · 07/10/2022 09:59

Just want to also add that they checked our whole flights covid passes a few weeks ago and took people to the side to be tested if they couldn't show vaccination status. I was very suprised! This was at Malaga and on a weekend. Yours sounds fine just make sure you have it to hand.

Was in Barcelona last week. No questions asked at airport regarding money and didn't check proof of vaccination. Although mask wearing on public transport is compulsory, only 50% were wearing them, and no one to check/enforce.

Catlitterqueen · 07/10/2022 10:04

Returned from Spain last week. No checks at all at Barcelona airport. My COVID passport is a different surname to my passport so I took my marriage certificate with me as advised but no one asked to see it.

chocolateisavegetable · 07/10/2022 11:19

Thank you @JudgeRindersMinder for clarifying on that point - my apologies OP I had completely forgotten that bit

RaininginDarling · 07/10/2022 11:29

Went to Menorca last month, everybody, off the plane, was asked to present their vaccination status, had their tempreture checked. It wasn't every twenty people, it was everyone. So I guess it depends on the airport. Maybe the flight. Who knows?

I'm only vaccinated twice so had to fill in the online form and have evidence of negative result from a recent PCR test. And they did check my paperwork.

Best to check the Spanish entry requirements online rather than Mumsnet. Spain did relax their entry requirements relatively recently but I suspect, going into the colder months and a roll out of yet another booster, it could well change again.

JudgeRindersMinder · 07/10/2022 11:45

I flew into Malaga a couple of weeks ago, as other have said, every passenger checked for vac status
