I have an idea, probably not original to spice up UK general elections. Everyone has one vote, as now, but may cast their vote for or against one candidate.
The vote counters would add up all the votes for and then subtract all the votes against each candidate. The winner would be the person with the highest net total votes. Some candidates would have less than zero votes, perhaps all of the candidates.
