To think this is absolutely stupid

I’m a head of department at work. Work are proposing a new management structure which will basically end up with the head of departments losing most of their authority and having to run nearly everything past board level staff nearly! I’m the head of marketing. Aibu to think this is stupid? What’s the point of having head of departments if you are going to take away all their authority

I agree from a practical level it seems annoying, but presumably there's a reason for it (i.e. other department managers are making inappropriate decisions and they've gone for a 'punish all' approach rather than addressing it with them).... but most people would be fairly happy with less responsibility for the same pay, so probably wouldn't be too worked up about it myself!

I might be a bit concerned that it would lead to a job eval and pay downgrade due to loss of ownership/responsibility.

Is this one of those moves that's triggered by one incompetent idiot who they won't get rid of for some reason?
