Is this food poisoning?

I had a chicken sandwich from Tesco on Monday after school pick up. I was starving so wolfed it down. Had awful nasty burps after it and now today been in bed all day. Feel dizzy when I get up. The taste of the sandwich has gone but up till yesterday I could “taste” it in my burps! Really strange. Painful cramps and going to the loo a lot. Have to go into work tomorrow. I phoned in sick yesterday and today. I feel so rough

I doubt it. Have you done a covid test?

Fluffluff · 05/10/2022 22:13

There's no real way of knowing.. Could be a gastro virus.
If it continues might be worth phoning Gp to see if a sample to the lab would identify the ossie.
Get well soon

In my experience of food poisoning, I've always 'known' was it was, on some weird subconscious level (once it was prawn gyoza, the other time it was shell-on peas). Of course I have no proof, but I trust my gut on this (no pun).

Food poisoning would occurs roughly 5-9 hours after consuming the product.

It sounds like reflux/indigestion, likely caused by the amount of air you intook while consuming it.

Have you tried gaviscon?

"Food poisoning would occurs roughly 5-9 hours after consuming the product"

It can take up to 48 hours, or even longer - I was surprised by this when told by an environmental health officer. I and some friends experienced this when we ate in a restaurant and 2 of us who ate the same thing were both violently ill during the night of the following day, around 30 hours later.

It may be, it may not. No real way of knowing without tests

EndersGame · 05/10/2022 23:11

It would have been a lot quicker and a lot more projectile.

I’m definitely no expert but that doesn’t sound like food poisoning to me. I had food poisoning once and believe me there was no mistaking it. Death felt like a potentially better option at the time. Maybe you’ve picked up a bug or could it be covid? Either way I hope you feel better soon x

It could be campylobacter which won't appear until 2 to 5 days after eating the contaminated food.

There's lots of misinformation around food poisoning; it doesn't always appear within hours nor is it always projectile vomiting.
