DH hasn't got me a cake - AGAIN!

I have always, always either made or bought him a cake for the last 11 years and he did for me but for the last 3 years he's either left it too late to bake one or forgotten and gone to get one on the day, which isn't the point imho.

Something this small wouldn't ordinarily get me annoyed, but cakes have always meant more to us than presents iykwim. Always a lot of thought and time goes into the cakes (from my side anyway) and the git is just so incompetent I want to pout and scream and stamp my feet!

After he told me I'd not got a cake for tomorrow, he went all sorry for himself and said he'd get me one tomorrow - I said if the thought and effort wasn't there already, then tomorrow there'd be no point (childish I know) and then he asked me not to be as mean as he feels bad enough already.

AIBU to want to make him feel bad? Surely if he felt this bad last year he'd have made the effort to remember this year?

AAARRRGGGHHHHH!!!!!! I can't believe a cake has p*ssed me off.

cake means a lot to me too. Mmmmmmm

no, joking aside I know how you feel. I am lucky if dp even remembers my bloody birthday

Izzybel · 25/01/2008 21:14

I would be livid . The cake is the best part of having a birthday! Last year I made DP go out and get me a cake, one of the Bubblegum ones which has the birthday cake in the middle and then loads of little fairy cakes round the outside. Yes I know, I am a child!

Izzybel · 25/01/2008 21:15

Aww Fingerwoman ! Men eh!

WinkyWinkola · 25/01/2008 21:57

Go and get your own cake tomorrow. And candles. You and the DCs gather round it. Sing Happy Birthday v. loudly and pointedly.

DH does not get a slice until he pulls his socks up.

No cake is a disgrace.

pointydog · 25/01/2008 22:02

how old are your kids?

go shopping for a cake with them or get them to help make one. They will love being involved in your cake

cherryredretrochick · 25/01/2008 22:09

With the cake making idea, Don't let Dh play though

3madboys · 25/01/2008 22:11

no you are not being unreasonable at all, i have had a huge fall out with dp this week as it was my bday last saturday, not only did i not get a cake, i also didnt get a card or a present, either from him or the boys because he 'didnt get round to it'

oh and he thinks it is pointless buying a card from the boys, which to me would mean more than a present etc, the boys are old enough now to write in a card etc and i think the boys themselves were actually upset that we didnt do anything for my bday.

i ALMOST made my own cake, but ffs its ONE day a year and you would think that they could make the effort

anyway i hope you have a lovely birthday xxxx
