To think putting a spider in the kitchen bin is not a good way of disposing of a spider?!🕷

So just had a heart attack finding a largeish spider sitting on top of some rubbish in the kitchen bin 😱….

Partner was like ‘oh must be the one I put in there earlier…’

Like I’m sorry but WHAT????!

Apparently sometimes he puts spiders he finds in a box and then puts this in the bin… well this spider found it’s way out of the box and just sat there waiting to surprise me… I think I might now develop a phobia of the kitchen bin…😱

It’s cruel and unnecessary when it could just be put outside

Absolutely this.

Awful thing to do.

House spiders in the UK do you absolutely no harm. They might look big and scary but they're more scared of you. They're actually amazing beings who have real talents. Can you make a web so intricate and beautiful? Leave the fucking spiders alone.

I hate their webs too, I have a traumatic memory as a child of climbing a tree and getting a big funnel type web across my face 😱

I find the webs just as frightening as the spiders themselves.

Interestingly I’m not as frightened of those spindley thin looking spiders that just hang in the corner, (although I can only tolerate them till they get to a certain size). I think this is because they don’t have a web though.

I wouldn't be married to a man that put spiders in bins. 🙂

Dalaidramailama · 06/10/2022 19:01

Of course it’s not a good way to dispose of spiders. Using the hoover with ant powder is a much more effective method 😉.

newnamethanks · 06/10/2022 19:10

YANBU. Spiders belong outside. Always.

Cam22 · 06/10/2022 19:12

It’s cruel, fgs. How difficult would it be to put it outside?
I will never understand some people. 😡

I've had cuddles with many house spiders and practically pushed my finger between their pincers and they will not bite.

They don't do us any harm only good, the more spiders the less carpet mites for example.

Treat animals (spiders are an animal) like you'd want to be treated if you were them.

Obviously actual parasites and dangerous animals need to be dealt with.

That spider is huge😱

Also I think you may have gotten lucky so far with not being bit by the spider @jewishmum

They might choose to bite if they feel threatened and while spiders in the UK are not poisonous their mouths are incredibly dirty (just think of what they eat) so if you get bit it can lead to a really nasty infection. My mum once had to go on antibiotics for a spider bite. It looked grim, like a little yellow/ green abscess weeping pus, the dr told her that spider bites more often than not lead to infection. Be careful handling those spiders jewishmum x

Well they get splatted with my flip flop. That's not how I'd like to be treated but then I'm not a spider.

@Shiningstarr

😂😂

Topseyt123 · 06/10/2022 20:39

If he could put it in the bin then he could have put it outside. I'm not into spider welfare at all, but even I don't get why he didn't do that.

U1sce · 06/10/2022 20:48

Most house spiders in the UK cannot penetrate human skin so really arent a threat. We need to work on spiders and insects being seen as not scary in general. We are so reliant on them all for our survival on planet earth and yet such a high proportion of people willingly kill them, even when they really arent at risk from them at all.

Il leave the fucking spiders alone when they leave my house 🤣

If they are in my house they are getting the shoe of death 👟

BogRollBOGOF · 06/10/2022 20:57

Poor spider.

I'll ignore if they're in an innocent corner and none of the wusses I live with are making a fuss, otherwise I'll scoop them up and put them outside.

I'm not a fan of spider killing but I can comprend why arachnophobes do it rather than gently handling them. Putting it in the bin is completely bizzarre!

2X4B523P · 06/10/2022 20:58

Spiders are a keystone species and without them most of the world’s population would die of starvation due to crop failure. I’m happy to leave the tiny little creatures to their own devices.

Lilyhatesjaz · 06/10/2022 22:37

I just leave them be. I have 2 that live in the downstairs toilet I see them occasionally but more often see the bodies of wood lice they have been feeding on. If I put a really big one outside I catch it in a saucepan put the lid on and find it a nice sheltered place in the garden.

Chloefairydust · 07/10/2022 00:56

It’s hard to ignore them if you have a phobia… And this time of year they don’t seem to stay put in a corner either.

The big ones keep appearing out of nowhere and run across the floor. I’m a nervous wreck this time of year.

He could just put them outside?

Tbf my dad used to put them in the kitchen drawers and cupboards as he thought they were lucky - that was traumatic.

@LizaSimpson I know this is an old thread but I've just read your post. If my dad did that to me, I'd be handing him my therapy bill.
