To think putting a spider in the kitchen bin is not a good way of disposing of a spider?!🕷

So just had a heart attack finding a largeish spider sitting on top of some rubbish in the kitchen bin 😱….

Partner was like ‘oh must be the one I put in there earlier…’

Like I’m sorry but WHAT????!

Apparently sometimes he puts spiders he finds in a box and then puts this in the bin… well this spider found it’s way out of the box and just sat there waiting to surprise me… I think I might now develop a phobia of the kitchen bin…😱

The bin isn’t a bag place for a spider though. Flies will come

Every time you kill a spider it rains. Do you live in Manchester by any chance? 😠

Iv never heard that before 😂

but no, I live in the SW. So if it’s raining up there it’s not me😁

StrawberrySquash · 05/10/2022 20:22

Dead bin is fine. Alive stick it outside. Bin doesn't solve the problem and it is cruel to the spider.

verabarbleen · 05/10/2022 20:28

Don't worry I swatted it good. And pray for me that this norovirus buggers off quickly

Justleaveitblankthen · 05/10/2022 20:29

No. It's bloody cruel.

Oysterbabe · 05/10/2022 20:31

That's crazy. DH throws them outside.

properdoughnut · 05/10/2022 20:37

So it gets crushed or buried alive? How nasty.

BeanieTeen · 05/10/2022 20:42

It’s cruel and unnecessary when it could just be put outside

Spiders who choose to live indoors do so for a reason, they are not ‘outdoor spiders’. They don’t want to be outside, vulnerable to predators - they can’t find a place to settle and get eaten up quickly. I think it would prefer the bin to be honest.
Kill them if it makes you feel better but the average home probably has a few hundred spiders so much good it will do…

Few hundred spiders …😮

WHAT?! 😱

Okay I might have to burn down my house now😬

It’s quite hard to crush a spider they are mysteriously agile and pop back up. I think they could make good life in a bin bag. I think the garden is probably more problematic.

limitededitionbarbie · 05/10/2022 20:47

Op was it alive?

limitededitionbarbie · 05/10/2022 20:48

If my husband put a live spider in our bin that just popped out at me I'd leave him.

Chloefairydust · 05/10/2022 20:52

Yes, spider was indeed alive and kicking 😬

I have a couple of these in the house. Excellent for catching spiders, wasps etc. then releasing outside. Sorry couldn't attach a link.

That looks like a useful contraption …

I make DH put them over the fence into next doors garden 😁

I always take house spiders nearer to a neighbours house than ours after one ran back towards the house. I'm sure next door is much nicer anyway

Summerfun54321 · 05/10/2022 21:13

I’d be pretty annoyed if a live spider was put in the kitchen bin ready to jump out like a Jack in the box when the lid was open!

WonderingWanda · 05/10/2022 21:14

I like spiders, the eat flies! We have one who lives in our bathroom, he pops out to say hello every morning. If they are in the kitchen I put them outside to save them from the cat....who is very naughty and will hunt them then line their dead bodies up 😬

TheBirdintheCave · 05/10/2022 21:20

If we see a spider in our house we just say something akin to 'Oh look, a spider', possibly comment on how big it is and then we all go on with our days (spider included) 😂

House spiders don't belong outside :(

petpig · 05/10/2022 21:26

The thin ones (cellar spiders) are useful to have in the house. They eat fleas and the moth that munch your cashmere and they kill other more hairy and unpleasant looking spiders.

The big hairy ones I prefer to put outside, gently. I wouldn't kill one on purpose.

Mrstiggywinkle44 · 05/10/2022 21:26

Just put them outside carefully

PumpkinPie2016 · 05/10/2022 21:42

That's just bizarre 🤔

I'm terrified of spiders so can't have them left in the house.

DH scoops them carefully in a glass and puts them outside (they probably go in the outbuildings which is fine as I don't go in those).

TwoMonthsOff · 05/10/2022 21:47

that is really mean, poor little spider, its not rubbish 😢people think they are okay to bully little things, it would be a different story if it was a lion or a grizzly bear (i know this is not likely)

mrsfollowill · 05/10/2022 21:56

We have 2 dedicated 'spider catching' plastic pint glasses and a piece of cardboard that fits over the top. Spiders are caught and released in the garden - if they are big fast buggers, they get let go half- way down the garden.
DH and DS are an excellent team - I occasionally get involved - if I'm home alone I sometimes pop the glass over the top (if spidey is on the floor) and leave it til one of them is home to release into the wild.
I think it's cruel to put the spider in the bin but then maybe putting a house spider out in the cold kills it anyway??
