No baby boy clothes anywhere

Slight exaggeration sorry, but is it just me or are there always more baby girl clothes in shops than boys?

today I went to asda and Sainsbury’s, was disappointed with the selection. I want to get a dressing gown for my baby for Christmas asda had some but they were all pink or clearly orientated towards girls.

nothing against gender non-conformity but I wanted like a cute bear or dragon dressing gown. Even the gender neutral stuff always looks more girl oriented

Tesco, H&M, tk maxx and even M&S when I went recently also had barely any boys clothes. (Tk maxx had some adorable halloweeny/autumnal baby dresses and I was gutted they had nothing in for boys)

just to be clear most these shops have plenty in for older boys but just not much for newborn - 1.5 year olds

am I being unreasonable and everyone else has no issue with the ratio of boy to girl clothing?

Most places selling clothes have nothing useful on the shelves, that's why people shop online.

Sophfreddie · 05/10/2022 13:39

I've noticed the same, either totally naff or really girly.. I've taken to getting most stuff from vinted now!

lifehappens12 · 05/10/2022 13:39

Not just availability but choice too. Welcome to the land of navy jogging bottoms you will be buying them for years

ShirleyPhallus · 05/10/2022 13:39

Girls clothes sell better than boys, that’s why there is more stuff

try Next, H&M, zara, M&S and JL, they all have stuff in

Hahaha. I got some hand me downs for when he is around 3 and a lot of those were navy or grey 😂

My boy is 13 months and I have found Tesco and Asda to be the best. The colours just now are amazing, dark orange, khaki, navy, neutrals! I've got some beautiful things.

Next and H&M online are also great.

Cas112 · 05/10/2022 13:43

Yes rubbish

PuttingDownRoots · 05/10/2022 13:43

Been the case for years
Theres more for girls but a lot is impractical or all pink.

HotDogKetchup · 05/10/2022 13:44

My boys stuff is mostly next.

APurpleSquirrel · 05/10/2022 13:48

The girls section will be bigger was it included dresses & skirts etc that aren't in the boys section. But as another PPs says often the girls clothes aren't weather appropriate (I remember one winter not being able to find a Puddlesuit in the girls section at all) & sooo much pink!
Boys clothes tend towards darker colours (or sludge colours) - if you want brights you generally need to go to places like Kite, Frugi etc & they're £££! Sainsbury's often has a few gems, brighter colours & patterns, & the old version of Little Bird was fab - try eBay, Vi Ted or FB marketplace.

Hmmm my Tesco was rubbish when I went on Monday and asda was a disappointment today. Asda often has good stuff online so maybe the shop I was in was just old season (was trying to also find a hat for winter and they only had 1 style (was expecting a few options) So just had to get that)

EBay has been my go to recently. Bought a lot of the Sainsbury TU GRUFFALO clothes that are no longer in store. And a lot of Joules stuff too.

I just bought two dinosaur dressing gowns from Matalan if that's any help x

RegeJeanPageMeOnMyCellphone · 05/10/2022 13:55

DS is 4 and I remember thinking the same. All boys clothes were grey too, so the little I did find was not worth buying! The girls section is always twice as big.

I got some lovely colourful bits in the Boden sale, Next and H&M.

FayeGovan · 05/10/2022 13:56

Try John lewis, they have a new anyday range, great value

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/10/2022 13:57

This is weird because I have been in baby clothes bits of b&m, Sainsburys and m&s this week and there’s tons of boy stuff ? Sainsburys had some lovely Peter rabbit stuff

Worthyornot · 05/10/2022 13:57

I just went to JL (Westfield) 2 weeks ago and was absolutely shocked that it's the first time that there were mostly boy and baby boy clothes. I asked one of the shop assistants if I've missed the girls aisles and she was also surprised that there were mostly boys clothes! First time ever! You might want to try JL.

ChocolateSpreadOnToast · 05/10/2022 13:57

I buy my boys clothes from Zara and H&M. But even the last time I visited H&M they’d moved all the shop around and about two thirds of it was girls clothes with boys at the back. I wasn’t impressed.

PhloxOfSheep · 05/10/2022 13:59

I think there are more girls' clothes, but they're not seasonally appropriate. I've been trying to find warm jumpers and jogging bottoms for my 11 month old DD and have mostly been getting things from the boys' sections if I can't find them at charity shops or on Vinted. Apparently baby girls don't get cold legs! It's all thin leggings still.

Pickledcurlywurly · 05/10/2022 13:59

There is loads of stuff online.

And lots of stuff in different colour choices online too.

I really don't understand the people who say they can only find black and sludge coloured clothes for boys. I have one who lives in bright coloured clothes.

Blueeyedgirl21 · 05/10/2022 14:00

Sainsburys also has quite a bit of really nice beige, burgundy, blue and dark grey girls stuff that’s different for winter if anyone is looking for non pastel pink options!

Misses point of thread

Foxglovesandlilacs86 · 05/10/2022 14:00

Sainsburys is best out the supermarket’s for boys baby stuff, girls too imo. My eldest is 14 and youngest is 1 and I’ve bought about half their clothes from there with all of them.

Its as they get older I find it harder for boys, everything has characters on! My older ones are now at the stage all they will wear is Nike!

LT2 · 05/10/2022 14:08

YANBU.

Had a look in M&S yesterday and there seemed more options in the girls section. Not just clothes though - even toy ads on the TV are mainly pink and fluffy toys with girls playing with them. Always animal toys aswell. Why do they have to be pink!? Boys love animals too!

Wheelz46 · 05/10/2022 14:10

Always been the case, always rows and rows of girls clothes and lucky if there is 1 row of boys clothes. What annoys me even further is, when they do the back to school clothes, it's always in the boys section, chopping it into half a row.

I once messaged the retailers to ask them why but got not response from any of them!

I guess it depends how you purchase clothes. For me I don't buy in bulk - I'll buy one item at a time, so I never shop for clothes online (unless there's something specific I really want to get!) If there was no minimum spend for free delivery, I would. Luckily by DS has all his clothes handed down so far from family and friends, or gifted new (he's only 8 months so he's not bothered)
