To have mixed feelings about Miranda Hughes

She worked for the NHS, now works for a private company and on the Jeremy Vine television show declared that Conservative voters shouldn't be resuscitated

It's all over the news and she may lose her current job.

I understand that she was frustrated as a nurse but , on the other hand, my parents vote Conservative and I wouldn't like to think that a nurse might decide not to help them because of their political views.

It has made me think that for her to voice that thought publicly, she must know that she's not the only one with those views and it worries me,.

OP posts:

I’m an ex-nurse and I despise the Conservative Party.
She’s a fucking idiot.

Topgub · 05/10/2022 16:12

@GreyhairedHobbit

Where did I insult your career choice?

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 05/10/2022 16:14

So if she is such a great socialist, why is she working in a private hospital. Hypocrite? Moi?

TooBigForMyBoots · 05/10/2022 16:17

@Allthegoodnamesarechosen, maybe, like many of our HCPs, she got sick of being treated like shit by the government.🤷‍♀️

Gymrabbit · 05/10/2022 16:27

The women is a bigot and clearly thick as shit to think that was acceptable to say in public. (regardless of her private thoughts on the matter) so she should be fired because who would want someone as dumb as her treating them.

Gymrabbit · 05/10/2022 16:28

Allthegoodnamesarechosen

of course - like all the socialist teachers who work in Private schools so they don’t have to mix with the working class kids!

IllDoItButOnlyForTheAttention · 05/10/2022 16:38

Yes, this is the result of the frankly stupid "all Tory voters are evil horrible nasty scum" narrative that seems to have become acceptable.

It's part of a larger ingroup/outgroup / demonising pattern that I find sickening.

The comment is hideous not because anyone actually thinks she WOULD stand by and let someone die, but because it's bringing into normal discourse the idea that there are some people who have such bad and wrong opinions that they are less human than the rest of us. It's sick and stupid.

"declared that Conservative voters shouldn't be resuscitated"

She actually said that tory voters dont deserve to be resuscitated by the NHS

Meh, I agree with her!

Bunpea · 05/10/2022 17:27

Miranda Hughes’ comment has damaged public trust in the UK nursing profession. Very sad day.

Topgub · 05/10/2022 17:28

@Bunpea

No it hasn't

🤣

😂😂 what an incredibly powerful woman she must be!

Of course its not worrying

For gods sake.

Do you genuinely think a health care professional would let how a person votes affect their treatment?

How would they even know the pts politics?

Well I don't think a professional would make such a claim on the television.

So the jury's out.

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 05/10/2022 18:31

Those people who wanted a Tory government need to take some responsibility for the outcome of their choices. People already die because of those choices.

It's quite easy to know someone's politics. In my local area it would be extremely easy to do just that. Surely she has an ethical code to work within.

Nonsense.

Topgub · 05/10/2022 19:14

@Snoozer11

Wrong choice of words, I think but I get the point she was making

@KingCharlespen

Really? Area defines politics? That's a new 1

Gymrabbit · 05/10/2022 19:19

Those on here mouthing off that they agree that people who voted Tory don’t deserve to be resuscitated - does this also extend to murders, paedophiles and rapists or are they fine if they voted Labour?

Do you actually understand how completely and utterly vile you are - to think that someone’s political opinion should decide whether they are treated in hospital or not?

this thread proves a fact that is becoming more and more clear. Many on the left are evil bigoted fascists who believe they are morally superior and that the large proportion of the public who vote Tory should be shunned and treated as less than human.

Gymrabbit · 05/10/2022 19:21

Whatiswrongwithmyknee

Do you also think that everyone who voted for Blair should be shunned and considered murderers due to the amount of Iraqis who died because of him?

Are you talking about the Tory voters here because voting for the Tory party has decimated the NHS for the last 12 years increasing waiting times, lack of gp's, doctors and nurses

Gymrabbit · 05/10/2022 19:26

JustAnotherPoster00

Surely it’s past your bedtime or time to go back the 80s when the concept of ‘talking about yourself again’ was last used….

AffronttoBS · 05/10/2022 20:38

Yabu to have mixed feelings. Is your priority with your parents, or the feelings of a random nurse you don’t even know.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 05/10/2022 20:52

You're being ridiculous, OP.

She wasn't suggesting for a moment that Tory voters shouldn't be resuscitated. No health care professional would actually argue that.

She was merely making the point that people who have voted to trash the NHS should count themselves bloody lucky that they still get treated like any other patient would, because their actions absolutely make them undeserving.

And yes, I imagine that lots of nurses and doctors probably feel deep rage towards the Tories for what they have done, but they're far too professional to ever let it impact on the quality of the treatment that they provide.

MytummydontjigglejiggleItfolds · 05/10/2022 21:14

Crikey you wouldn't like the chat in hospitals. I remember one doc joking he was going to change the resus status of everyone on the ward who read the daily mail to DNR.
Would that doctor have EVER put anything less than his maximum effort into resuscitation should any of those patients need it? No, absolutely not.
HCPs deal with some really unlikeable people. It's part of their job and professionalism to treat them to the best of their abilities. Political leaning is the least of it - child abusers, rapists, murderers.
I'm not comparing a Conservative voters to any of these. I'm just saying HCPs are allowed to have their own thoughts on their head whilst maintaining professionalism at work.
Let's wait till she had treated a patient unfairly specifically because of their voting pattern before we bay for her blood ay?
