What do they do? You hear a lot about patients bed blocking but even before covid a wait of 6 hours was not unusual. I dont mean to be goady in any way, I just want to understand

Hospital pharmacists ensure doctors don't kill or harm their patients but checking exactly what 5he doctors have prescribed. Dosage, any interactions with other health conditions or medications etc. A lot of junior doctors are pretty clueless.

They also have to do 'on call' shifts overnight and 5hen go into work the next morning. They take calls from the wards at night for medication that isn't urgent and that should have been ordered earlier in the day.

I agree that the ward pharmacist seemed to spend most of their time correcting drug errors where i worked, it was ridiculous.

Essentially this

My hospital tried blaming the pharmacy for not dispensing my own medication which I brought in and all they had to do was give it to me they got rather irritated when I spoke a little slower and pointed this out (I really wanted to go home by them GIVE ME MY PILLS 🤣)

I learned not to take too many of my own/ds's meds in.

We once took a new bottle for ds. It would have lasted about 3 weeks at his dosage. It was taken off us. With hindsight they were obviously using their own supply while he was there. On discharge they wrote up about 3 days supply for him to be given tontske home. I asked a nurse about why we hadn't got his own bottle back which would have had more than that left. It was still on the ward so they did give it us back, unopened!!

Since then, when possible I'd just take a few days worth!!
