Anti-learning culture

I’m curious to know whether anyone went to/ has children who go to a school where there is an anti-learning culture and how common this is.

I went to a private secondary school where it was very uncool to do well at school. In fact being disruptive was admired. A significant number of students in my year group ended their education at 16/18 (on another note I’ve sometimes wondered whether some parents had so much money they didn’t care about the outcome or if these parents were disappointed). I then went on to a selective grammar school where the culture was completely different. Almost everyone was ambitious and there was a sense of academic competitiveness. I’m really keen for my children to go to schools where learning and doing well academically isn’t viewed with disdain. DH thinks my experience at my secondary school is quite unusual especially for the private sector but I’m not so sure…
