Moving house and energy supplier

We moved into a new build on the 30th September. We were previously with SSE on a fixed traffic until 24th November but they won't transfer my account over as they aren't taking any new customers under the SSE brand.

The new build property is with British Gas but I know they are notoriously expensive.
I've tried OVO and Octopus but I can't join them online . I haven't called yet due to the wait times.

Will I be stuck with British Gas for the foreseeable?

But you will be on the price guarantee rate whatever supplier you go with so it won't really matter which you choose.

It's stupid because you used to be able to move your supplier when you moved house and keep the same tariff I've done it before but scottish power said they won't let me keep my super cheap tariff if I move

Everywhere is the same price for the foreseeable so you're choosing really just on customer service, not price (although I believe Octopus are technically cheapest as they froze the standing charge IIRC).

Hugasauras · 03/10/2022 19:56

And Octopus are taking new customers but you do have to ring them (or message on Twitter - they respond v fast there).

dementedpixie · 03/10/2022 19:58

Octopus standing charge is 5% lower I think rather than frozen.

If Octopus let you switch then try and get a referral code as that should get you a £50 credit to your bill and also to the person providing the referral (if they are still accepting the codes too)

Thanks I will ring Octopus in the morning to see what they say.
I'm really annoyed about losing the fixed t rate tariff we were on!
