Weird DPD delivery

Hi,

First post here but longtime lurker! I've had a delivery from DPD which has left me a bit unsettled. On Friday I refused to accept a delivery which had my address but someone else's name. The driver took my picture as I opened the door and ran, I ran after and insisted he take it back. Today the package was abandoned by DPD outside our door. Here's where it gets odd, our address is the sender, so it's a 'return to sender' situation, but we don't know the named person. Looking at the tracking it's traveled for a few weeks from Poland and been refused delivery several times in Wales. The package is big, heavy and falling apart. Through the gaps it looks to be junk - old forks, cheap books and Czech coins. DPD are being unhelpful saying its delivered so job done. Do you think its some weird scam? Has anyone else had a mystery package like this? AIBU to feel uneasy? What do we do with it?

Thanks!

Sounds odd. Have you tried googling the name?

It's a generic polish name. The phone number is a removal company in Kent. It's just weird, why ship 13 kg of junk?

open it and find out.

If it's junk, I would imagine it's likely a neighbour who has put down the wrong house number or similar. I can see why you'd find it unnerving though!

It's not a neighbour. It can't ba a neighbour, It originated in Poland but has our address as the sender but with someone else's name. The delivery address is some tiny village in Wales.

Do you have a Facebook group for your local area you could post on? I bet someone has just put the wrong number down.

Have you googled the name and your city? Looked on Facebook for someone by that name who lives in your area?

I've tried that but the parcel was shipped in Poland but has our address as the sender. We've asked around and no one knows them.

open it and find out.

We'll try DPD one more time. Then I'll open it and let you know what free junk we've got!

Ncd for it. I am intrigued why polish person is sending czech money.
Is there anything written on the box bar adresses?

TokyoTen · 03/10/2022 19:05

Can you try to trace the sender and receiver and contact them by piecing together information? We had a similar thing - a parcel turned up and it wasn't our name or post code and we didn't know the sender. We opened it and it was a lot of cut off hair! We managed to put a handwritten note in the parcel which gave a name with a name on our local facebook page - and it was her mother's hair who'd passed away. She was over joyed to get it. So... I guess the message is you can get weird stuff which turns out ok! Good luck with the detective work.

There is a polish address that looks to be a house clearance company or something.....
Plus multiple tracking stickers

It's possible someone was shipping mementos after death of a relative.

I am kinda curious about it but it's been delivered to the 'recipient' at least 3 times and rejected and technically we are the senders. It currently shedding shards of glass onto our dining table so it's getting hidden away until we have a solution.

Oh no. Is it tiny VERY think sparkly maybe glass? That could be Christmas decorations. Vintage family ones. I don't know why that was my first though😂

I would try to email the removal company. If you find anything written in czech (going by czech coins you might), post it here, I can help

I was thinking along the lines of someone who has just moved nearby perhaps arranged to have some items shipped over to their new address but wrote it down wrong (number 12 instead of 21) iyswim.

MissingMoominMamma · 14/03/2023 13:57

I’d open it, if only to repackage it, if it’s leaking glass shards.

And I’m quite intrigued…

alltalknobaby · 14/03/2023 14:03

I’d hope it’s either been opened or binned by now, seeing as this originated in October last year 🧟‍♀️
