So - you crape butter up off a board. With bits on it/in it ....
Everyone else scrapes their bread about in it as well ...

I'm Confused

Anyone here had it. or made one?

Am I the only one who likes the idea 😂😂 but using a knife to put the butter on my bread rather than dipping.

it’s no different to hummus or any other kind of dip in a sharing situation surely?

Imagine if the board someone scrapes the butter on isn't clean. 🤮

Imagine if the plate a restaurant serves you on isn’t clean!

why wouldn’t it be clean?

What a load of walkers.

Yes, butter board served up with a nice bag of salt & vinegar as well!

No, not really, but with hummus / dip, it’s in a bowl, and not smeared on a wooden board. Which to my mind, makes it a lot less appealing (the board smearing, that is!).

Won't it go all rancid runny?

NiqueNique · 03/10/2022 19:58

Like those grazing troughs that apparently are all the rage, but worse.

Do you know how long it takes for butter to go rancid?

It would have to be very hot in the restaurant for it to go runny

'Ornamented'?

Are you saying you don't ornament your butter @iklboo? What kind of a savage are you?

Mangogogogo · 03/10/2022 20:03

Noooo this is crazy!! We used to do this 5 years ago when I worked in a hotel. When the fresh bread was all served we’d eat the leftovers with a smoosh of butter like that with any other shit in it we could find! Mental!

WiddlinDiddlin · 03/10/2022 20:07

I don't see anywhere that the article suggests you dip the bread directly into the butter...

I had reasonably assumed a knife so you can get some butter then spread it on your bread yourself, then add whatever else.

I was annoyed by 'ornamented' - fairly sure the word they were looking for was 'augmented', but these days, who knows.

I don't mind this too much though anyone putting a jammy knife back in the butter would get a slap from me.

I really HATE the 'grazing table' trend, hopefully food is now too expensive for people to just throw disgusting quantities of food across a table and pretend they've done something much more marvellous than...a/ buy lots of food...b/ open lots of packets...c/dump contents on table.

Thenose · 03/10/2022 20:24

I could get on board with a butter board, as long as it was single serving. The massive rippling pile in the picture looks disgusting. However, I imagine that a single person board with little knobs of flavoured butters alongside lots of warm crusty bread could be delicious.

katepilar · 03/10/2022 20:27

Why would people scrape their bread in a communal dish? Whats wrong with using a knife?

iklboo · 03/10/2022 20:48

@TooBigForMyBoots - I usually serve mine in a cat litter tray for extra crunch 😂

Dontsayyouloveme · 03/10/2022 20:51

Livinginanotherworld 😂😂 totally agree….
