Saw the advert and I'm not impressed. They look too weird and scary for young toddlers. The eyes are WEIRD

Cbeebies had Dirtgirlworld. No weirdness will ever top it.

Oh god I had forgotten about that one 😱

Wanda616 · 03/10/2022 11:05

DD used to be afraid of elephants, if we watched an episode of Peppa when Emily or Edmund Elephant trumpeted she would howl in terror. Somebody bought us one of those big books you press buttons for sounds to match the story, it was a jungle themed one and had an elephant sound, had to hide the book in the airing cupboard.

My nearly three year old loves it and has never found it creepy. It’s kids vs kids, with very low stakes (it’s nearly always “the park is in trouble!”) and no one ever gets hurt.

Honestly, a lot of the kid stuff CBeebies make themselves is much more objectively creepy - just sit and watch a few episodes of In The Night Garden.

Figgygal · 03/10/2022 11:11

Seen it All on disney plus there is literally nothing concerning about it
Have you ever seen baby Jake? Now that's terrifying

PinkButtercups · 03/10/2022 11:11

My DS hates school of roars because the orange monster that pops up mid episode and shouts roar scares him.

We simply just don't watch it...

I don't think Spider-Man scares most kids though.

birdglasspen · 03/10/2022 11:58

My 5 year old is and always has been scared of Peter rabbit however he wants to watch any starwars that I’ll allow. He’s not scared by them! 3 year old has been scared by Dennis the meanace but that’s all. Who knows what your kid will find scary just switch it off won’t do them any harm not watching!

Iheartmykyndle · 03/10/2022 12:13

It's got a banging theme tune though. Whoooah whoah whoah ah ah!

My nearly 5yo is terrified of Peter Rabbit especially Tommy Brock and Mr McGregor, she often watches it from behind a cushion. No one complains about that.

Mayorquimby2 · 03/10/2022 14:32

Seconded for the banging fall out boy theme tune

It does seem a bit much for CBeebies. It should be on CBBC. Spiderman is friendly but some of the villains such as Green Goblin, Dr Octopus and Dr Doom are too scary for little ones.

It's basically rebadged PJ masks. GG/doc oc are children doing watered down bad guy things with a 'lesson' every episode and it's all very much toddler friendly.
My 2yo loves it, he watched an episode earlier then broke out his spidey and friends duplo. As far as I can tell he's not traumatised by the big eyes

mynameiscalypso · 03/10/2022 15:49

Have you seen the episode of In the Night Garden where the Tombliboos get hammered on the special pinky ponk juice? That is definitely not for children!

ShatParp · 03/10/2022 10:51

I AM A SHAPE! Was it the rectangle that was possessed?!

yep! He also looked pissed as almost fell when he turned around 😂

Frazzledmummy123 · 03/10/2022 15:53

Spiderman has been popular for years and their faces aren't that different so I'd say they are fine for Cbeebies.

My son was terrified of the statues in the zingzillas. He'd freak out when they were on. I can't say I was too keen on them myself.

Ahsoka2001 · 03/10/2022 16:07

Wow, never thought Cbeebies would show a Marvel programme! I haven't seen it but will check it out to form an opinion on the suitability. Sounds like there'll be lots of diversity - Ms Marvel (South Asian) and Black Panther (African) are listed as allies on the Wikipedia page.

MadameOvary81 · 03/10/2022 17:33

My 3 year old begs to watch Goosebumps and the anime show Haunted House, so Spidey on Cbeebies is the least of my worries.

Danikm151 · 03/10/2022 17:37

My 2 year old loves it. It’s much more appropriate than the regular spiderman cartoons

Cas112 · 03/10/2022 18:21

Don't put it on for your child then. Choose another channel

Laiste · 03/10/2022 18:28

Crikey nothing could be worse than Moon Baby! The Collywobble thing and Sleepy Dildo or whatever it is. It's nightmarish!

Is Numberjacks still on? I know lots of kids who found the Number Taker terrifying.

Never mind the kids, I found the Numberjacks baddies terrifying!

One of mine loved ITNG. Until the episode where Mr Pontipine's moustache flew off. For some reason it absolutely terrified him and he would scream whenever he saw ITNG again. Including when he saw the toys I'd bought him. Which was great.

God yeah and that little lambkin thing jumping randomly and stiffly into the air.

and the creepy ‘Pepppeeyyy nannnnnna’ to summon them all!

BrutusMcDogface · 03/10/2022 20:12

Mr onion….onion, onion…… <shudder>

My 4 year old also loves Spidey and friends. His favourite is Ghost Spider (the female one).

inappropriateraspberry · 09/10/2022 08:56

It's the toddler friendly version! Not violent and 'friendlier' versions of the characters. My 4 year old loves it.
It is nothing like the usual Spider-Man, and they all go home to Spidey's mum at the end! 😆
It's no different to plenty of other children's programs.
I know which version I'd rather my child watch.

My daughter was terrified of the pinky ponk and the big balloons on Night Garden when she was little. Would run out if the room if they came on. You can’t always predict what toddlers will get freaked out by!

JenniferBarkley · 09/10/2022 09:04

As soon as I heard this was coming to cbeebies I knew there would be an outraged thread on MN Grin

We're the mean parents who restrict to cbeebies so my four year old is delighted. I can't see the problem.

CatsCatsCats11 · 09/10/2022 09:06

My 2 year old loves it! Nothing is as scary as in the night garden, makes me feel like I've taken drugs watching that show.

Glittertwins · 09/10/2022 09:07

Turn off the tv if you consider it "too scary" 🙄
