Am I unreasonable to be shocked that this venue is booked up until January ?!

I get that it’s popular, but so are places like Alton Towers, and you don’t have to book that weeks ahead. Wtf is going on??

I take it you mean Harry Potter Studios in London?

We managed to get tickets at short notice back in March, it is good that they only allow so many in, as you wouldn't be able to see everything otherwise.

I would just book for January, you've got it to look forward to then, it will be here before you know it.

sanityisamyth · 02/10/2022 12:35

Taking DS on 31st October. Thought witches and wizards would be ideal for Halloween! It was a long waiting list though.

Ninabean17 · 02/10/2022 12:45

We've been a few times. Sometimes we've been lucky and managed to get a slot for maybe a month's time, sometimes it's 6/7 months time. It's always busy but it's worth the wait.

witchyw · 02/10/2022 12:51

Keep checking the website- all hours- you're quite likely to get a ticket as ppl cancel

zingally · 02/10/2022 13:01

It's always been "book ahead and timed entry". I'm not very surprised it's booked up until January. What with winter coming, and it being almost all indoors, its a good option for a lot of people wanting a day out.

TheFeistyFeminist · 02/10/2022 13:15

Always books up early for Christmas because they make it extra magical at Christmas time.

LaurieFairyCake · 02/10/2022 13:24

It's really lovely at Christmas 🎄

SirSamVimesCityWatch · 02/10/2022 13:28

Yep Hogwarts in the Snow is totally worth it. They have the Great hall etc decorated for Xmas but they also make it "snow" over the enormous model Hogwarts, as they did for the films, and it looks absolutely magical. The model Hogwarts is pretty breath-taking anyway, but even more so with the snow.

Yabu.

Its always been that way. When it first opened, we booked tickets for the following year as that was the next available date. Been 4 times and had at least a 4 to 5 month wait before the visit

Mapletreelane · 02/10/2022 13:50

Has always been a long wait, but I think now with international travel restrictions lifted all the overseas visitors are coming back to see it too which will increase demand. People come from all over the world to see it.

I'm not a Harry Potter fan but thought it was amazing so will be definitely worth the wait!

AgentJohnson · 02/10/2022 16:57

DD and I are going on Dec 30th and even though I'm not an uber fan like DD is, I think I'm more excited than she is! Any do's and don't tips will be gratefully received.

LemonMuffins · 02/10/2022 17:01

It's always booked up. If you want to book when they've got the Halloween or Christmas specials on then you need to book as soon as they release availability.

It is fantastic though. I wanted to go back in Oct half term but didn't plan well enough.

taybert · 02/10/2022 17:05

To be fair to the OP I was surprised at this recently too, when I looked at booking about 3 months in advance and couldn’t thought I suppose autumn in to the Christmas season is always going to be a popular time to go.

That said I found it interesting that I could get tickets on an organised tour from a third party for pretty much any day I wanted at pretty short notice- if I paid an absolute fortune. Whilst I appreciate they include travel to the studio, the tour tickets themselves must come out of the total allocation so obviously reduce the number of tickets available overall. Seems a shame that so many go to tour companies.

Weightlossanne · 02/10/2022 17:33

My daughter got a voucher for her birthday last year, she tried to book for the school summer holidays in April but couldn’t get in until this month.

Erictheavocado · 02/10/2022 19:44

I was given gift tickets for my birthday before it even opened. And it was months before I could actually book a day and time to go. I went back a few years later and still had to book months ahead. Clearly it has maintained its popularity, especially if you want to go during school holidays or at times like Halloween or Christmas.

BlackLambAndGreyFalcon · 02/10/2022 19:50

My cousin has just been. She was on holiday visiting the UK from overseas and she couldn't believe that the dates were all sold out months before she even bought her flights. However, she was able to book (for an extortionate fee) a private day tour from London. It seems that they always have availability for tours, even when the general booking slots are sold out.....

ohlordhelpme · 02/10/2022 19:54

Keep checking, there's always cancellations. We've managed to get tickets a week
in advance, and again the day before.

Look at it another way - not all the tickets sold to the tour companies will get used, so the studio tour won't often be at full capacity, which means it's less busy than it would otherwise be when you're there!

erikbloodaxe · 02/10/2022 20:09

I was there on Monday. Very busy with at least 3 school trips for our time slot. Top tips..... take your own food and drink. £7.99 for a butterbeer. The gift shop is huge but so, so overpriced for importated low quality stuff. £27.99 for a scarf which was identical to one from Lidl for about £5.

It was very good though.

Remember........ The wand chooses the wizard Grin

Abraxan · 02/10/2022 20:23

Tips

Prepare for the shop and have a budget, that you've shared with your child so they know they can't have lots,

My knitted retro style scarf is really good quality and is lasting really well. The r shirts wear and wash well. The cloaks are very dear but good quality , tons better than the copies. The wands are dear but decent quality. Much better quality than the cheap Amazon style copies, in my experience.

The notebooks, badges, etc aren't really any better than copies, the books are the same as elsewhere, though think similar cost anyway generally.

Food is pretty much like s]going to any other bug attraction p expensive for what it is. Depends if you want to carry a packed lunch around all day or not, if you've not had butter beer before inky buy one between you until you've tried it. Dd loves it but it is very sweet, so not to everyone's taste.

thegreenlight · 02/10/2022 20:32

If you book a package with coach travel too you can book for next weekend if you want! Loads of tickets are bought up by tour operators.

SparklyDiscoBall · 02/10/2022 20:36

Agree with previous posters - it’s the time of year. I hear they decorate it beautifully for Halloween and Christmas, hence why those dates sell out. I’m desperate to go, but as it’s expensive I want to make the most of it and go at Christmas, so it’ll be December 2023 or 2024 by the time I eventually get there! I’ve been told its worth the wait and the month though.

Honeyroar · 02/10/2022 20:40

They usually keep the Xmas decorations up throughout January.

bridgetreilly · 02/10/2022 20:58

Are you sure? I went in March and when I first tried, it said no tickets available. Turns out they were only releasing them a month or so in advance.

Lookingforbargains · 02/10/2022 21:09

I’m actually so grateful for the comments on this thread - you guys were right! I’ve been obsessively refreshing the site and dates do keep cropping up! Gonna keep going. Thank you 😊
