Would it be safe to leave a fruit cake cooking in the oven while I do the school run (It takes 1 1/2 hours to cook). Or is it too dangerous to leave the oven on if nobody is home. The cake is for my Dad's birthday tomorrow and if I don't make it now I'll have to do it late tonight.

LOL calzone with your name not knowing what a pizza stone is (but I don't either...)

NAB's comment HAS to be put in the Mumsnet talk roundup next week...

oh I don't know what it is but I wanted one

i think it is a big slab of something (stone?) you put in the oven and heat up, then when you put your pizza on it you get a nice crisp base

mine are always soggy

ruddy oven

tassisssss · 25/01/2008 18:32

i do this all the time

but then my school run takes 5 mins if I talk to no-one

(have been very tempted to leave dd sleeping but that is a whole different thread...)

we use these

fab, but your pizza ends up on stilts if you make the dough too sticky as we discovered last weekend

Hmm, prefer the metal pizza trays with the holes in personally.

And also, you mustn't use too much dough or overload with toppings, especially ones that go soggy, like mushrooms or tomatoes.
