We've used £3.30 already. Yesterday we used £5.80

No heating on
Washing machine has been on a quick cycle
2 x showers (total 10 mins?)
1x TV on
Kettle boiled 3x
Usual things plugged in / on standby (fridge/freezer/other TVs etc)
No lights on

Still need to do another wash, 2 small children need a bath (will share), 1 teenager needs a shower, kettle will be on at least another 3/4 times. Dinner to be made.

We can never seem to stick to our 'budget' (who sets that? The company?) unless we're out all day.

How do you manage to stick to your budget ? Seems unmanageable (2ad, 1 teenager, 1 infant school & 1 baby)

We're £400 in credit over the summer but DD has gone from £105 to £291 !

54p gas (6.55kw)

We've used 4.65 so far today, that's 3 loads of washing, two dishwasher loads, I cooked a casserole on the hob then it went into the oven for an hour with a tray of roasted veg, boiled new potatoes and steamed broccoli on the hob, also baked banana bread so had both ovens on for about 45 minutes, I had thought I'd get it all in one hence the banana bread but it wouldn't all fit. Two showers, a bath and TV on for a couple of hours this afternoon. No heating, it's been quite sunny here today. No consoles, computers etc.
Old draughty Edwardian semi.

That’s quite good!

think ours was around 5£ with heating this morning + 1 washing + 1 tumble dryer + oven once

@InCheesusWeTrust

Our rates are the standard variable so £0.35 for electricity and £.0.10 for gas

Who is this with?
We are with Eon and electricity is 0.53 as of today and 0.14 for gas!

That sounds like they've just not updated the price guarantee rates.

It may be that they haven’t changed their rates to reflect the unit rate cap yet. Octopus have put a big sign on their webpage and app to say that although for example electric says 54p a unit now it won’t in a couple of days when they’ve updated it to reflect the government’s cap.

specialk9 · 01/10/2022 21:57

We're now at £6.70!

@NevieSticks we're with EDF. Our fixed ended in July and we stayed on the variable which I think should be the same for everyone now ?

Interesting to see how we compare. Not sure why we seem to be at the higher end compared with some.

We've done 3x showers, didn't bath the younger kids (will do tomorrow !), kettle was on 5/6 times, dishwasher once, dinner was cooked on the gas hob. Lunch was microwave and toaster (scrambled eggs on toast!). Washing machine was used once. Various gadgets charged through the day. 1 TV was on for the majority. I did an hour of ironing. The lights were used when needed. We didn't have the heating on. Baby's sound machine & monitors have been on and plugged in since 7pm. Pretty standard weekend stuff!

The costs oer units still differ. I think the standing charge too. Slightly but differ. It epends on area as well

Tigger85 · 01/10/2022 22:27

We are on standard variable rate, today was £2.40 we have done 2 lots of washing, cooked pizza in the oven for dinner and the children have had a shallow warm bath. Most days it's been £1.47-£1.70 and around £2-£2.50 if anyone showers or does a load of washing. We are a family of 4 with a primary school aged ds, a baby, 3x dogs in a standard sized 3 bed semi. We can't afford to put the heating on until November or even better December especially whilst I'm on mat leave.

MovedByFanciesThatAreCurled · 01/10/2022 22:31

£1.46 for both electricity and gas. 2 showers, tv on and one electric blanket. A couple of lights on for about half the day. Gas is only 60p and is the same roughly every day if we don’t put the heating on - electricity is normally higher on days when we use the washing machine/tumble dryer. Would rather give up heating than my tumble dryer!

InCheesusWeTrust · 01/10/2022 10:59

We do too. There is always gym clothes and clothes from DH's work which is just soaked in grease and food smell (kitchen job). Also oil stains didn't go at 30 🙄

Have you tired rubbing a bit of washing up liquid onto the grease stain while the clothes are dry, leave it half an hour then wash. I believe you can wash on cold with this, though I may be making that up

SpringIntoChaos · 01/10/2022 22:52

Update on my 84p from earlier...it's now £3.58

I live by myself...this is the most in one day ever 🤦‍♀️😥

Not sure I can sustain this on my income 😥😥 I barely did anything...heating only on for one hour!!! What on earth will I do when it gets really cold and I need to turn it on more? 🥶🥶🥶

Yes, but tbh we can't be arsed doing that on minimum of 14 garmets a week with minimum of trillion mini stains🙈

4.80 yesterday...

4 of us. Bearded dragon with a viv to heat all day which probably doesn't help
Gas and electric 300.00 pm at the moment

Judijudi · 01/10/2022 23:51

When we first got our smart meter we unplugged the display and it spent at least a year in a drawer. But decided to dig it out and plug it in so we’d have a better idea of what we use. £4.28 today.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/10/2022 23:51

£5.90 elec and £1.31 gas. Computer been on, tv, DD's tv. Heated airer, done 3washes and used tumble dryer. Electric oven was on.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 01/10/2022 23:55

Boiled kettle a few times and I've had two showers, DH one

Mumof3girlsandaboy · 02/10/2022 00:01

i used £2.50
I was using tumble dryer
oven
and air fryer

NevieSticks · 02/10/2022 00:09

Just checked and today's total is 2.68 and we used the tumble dryer. The new Eon rates haven't clicked over on the smart meter yet. In April they took a day or so as well.

NevieSticks · 02/10/2022 00:11

Next Eon online now offline!

DelphiniumBlue · 02/10/2022 00:15

Smart meter says £3.28 for Saturday, up till midnight. That includes 3 loads of washing, no dishwasher because it's broken, half the house hoovered , big old TV and digibox on all evening, no heating, DS's computer running for most of the day.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 02/10/2022 00:16

Got up and three of us had showers.

Have been out all day, got home at 9pm and we'd spent over £5 in combined energy costs today.

No cooking, no washing, no dishwasher on and no heating.

Terrifying.

IncessantNameChanger · 02/10/2022 00:19

Think it was under £3 still and not much difference from the usual.

2 electric showers
2 load of washing
7 ish boils of kettle
Dinner in the gas oven
TV, lights on from 6pm
Gadgets charging and ds PC on

No heating, no dryer.

I will check more closely at 11pm tomorrow I think. Trying really hard to not use the dryer or heating until I have no choice really.
