A friend with severe MH and body image issues thinks this is the ‘antidote’ to filtered content and thinks it’s great fun to use. Past experience in supporting her is that she does go down ‘rabbit-holes’ on social media and I’m guessing BeReal will be no different in this regard.

YABU. None of them are worrying.

These apps and their users cannot be responsible for those who are not emotionally resilient enough to be on them.

They are for sharing your life, memories, photos, videos, thoughts, feelings etc.

If a person cannot handle that that is their problem to deal with, it is not the app’s or other users fault.

Right, and we’ll just pretend teenagers aren’t the target market for some of these apps…

Keyansier · 30/09/2022 14:17

Never heard of it.

They’re not. But poor parenting leads to unsupervised and neglected teenagers using them and subsequently others wanting to join.

Never heard of it.

Its an app where you upload a pic daily, it uses both front and back camera and takes a pic of whats in front of you, plus a pic of you.

Bouncealot · 30/09/2022 16:54

I think the idea is to prompt you by alerts to take a photo selfie and surroundings to show your real life which you then compare to others in contrast to filtered ‘bestlife’

How old are your kids?

ItsRainingTacos79 · 30/09/2022 17:07

IMHO social media during the teenage years is a distraction that impacts negatively on schooling and mental health. There really are no benefits to it.

FridayTheThirteeth · 30/09/2022 17:15

It's a pathetic app where people pretend to post real pictures.... it's the usual look at me crap that people seem to need nowadays

Shallow - self indulgent rubbish

That isn’t relevant to the discussion.
