Any chance they know what they're doing and this is going to be wonderful for all of us.

I mean, surely they know something we don't?

The Bank of England moved to secure pension funds which were at risk from the Government's policies!

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 19:45

According to the Daily Mail , the chancellor isn't backing down on this.
Not sure what wiki happen

Jacopo · 28/09/2022 19:45

Why was he laughing at the Queen’s funeral? Is he permanently high on drugs? And was he high when he wrote the budget plans?

Primroseprimula · 28/09/2022 19:30

I saw Liz truss described by somebody on reddit as "Margaret thatchers haunted blouse" which pretty much sums it up

Best thing I've read in a very long time!

twilightermummy · 28/09/2022 19:47

Plus make lots of money for their mates by shorting the pound

This sums up my take on the week’s events.

caringcarer · 28/09/2022 19:47

I understand they are trying to stimulate economy but Crazy Quarteng tried to do too much too quickly. Whoever was chancellor would have had to borrow for gas and electricity help to consumers, taking off green levy, but taking a penny off tax for all and an additional 5p for those earning over £150k was a choice he made. He should have left those options for April. He tried to do too much at once and spooked the markets.

Ylvamoon · 28/09/2022 19:51

Is he permanently high on drugs? And was he high when he wrote the budget plans ?

I definitely want some of his stuff and have some glorious visions of my own!

ImAvingOops · 28/09/2022 19:51

If there were infinite parallel universes, I suppose in one of them LT and KK would be visionaries. But back in this world, if everyone (John Redwood doesn't count) thinks they've fucked up, then chances are that everyone is right and LT is wrong!

OP put down the Absinthe and go for a long lie-down in a darkened room. You are clearly a bit under the weather Grin

YABVU @DisappointinglyFlatulent, you've made me fancy absinthe now!

Westfacing · 28/09/2022 19:57

Where are they?

pigsDOfly · 28/09/2022 19:59

I think they have a cunning plan.

They're going to screw up the economy as much as they possibly can for the next 2 years.

They know they'll lose an election and the poison challis will be handed onto Labour.

Five years down the line Labour will still be trying to sort out the god awful economic mess that Truss and co have left but they (Tories) will blame the mess on Labour and will come galloping in on their white charger claiming they will sort it all out.

The average voter has a very short memory and will, they are hoping, accept what they're being told.

They might even, at that point, bring back Boris Johnson because that worked so well for them last time.

And round and round the mulberry bush we go.

Minimalme · 28/09/2022 20:00

As is oft quoted on MN, when someone shows you who they are, believe them.

Liz Truss has shown us she is bonkers. I believe her.

NeelyOHara1 · 28/09/2022 20:01

There's counter intuitive and there's complete mental..

Liz is getting her hair done for the Party conference.

No come on, I'm being serious! Kwasi went to Eton, Cambridge and Harvard, so he's clever right?

LizTee went to Oxford.

And John Redwood is supporting them ...

Lots of academically brilliant people have no common sense.

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 20:06

Getting her hair done ! Is this on expenses ?
I bet it is

Someone on another thread suggested Kwarteng is trying to effect supply side reform. So I read up a bit here: www.economicshelp.org/macroeconomics/economic-growth/supply-side-policies/

and it seems to support the idea they are a couple of free market oriented economists (given the whole "Post Brexit Red Tape bonfire" , Truss's aversion to "handouts" and the recent tax cuts). However, the IMF seem convinced they are a pair of terrifying lunatics about to torch the UK economy, so who knows?

isadoradancing123 · 28/09/2022 20:24

In the past even Putin said Truss was mad………and thats something coming from him

the80sweregreat · 28/09/2022 20:25

They are scary people
It's all I know

Bumpsadaisie · 28/09/2022 21:47

Well I think they are certainly seeing things that we aren't.

Rather like your best mate saw things when she took that LSD back in '96.

They said that about Brexit and six years on it's a millstone around our necks constantly costing a fortune and holding our country back.

No there’s zero chance. Growth by trickle down (lol) is only going to happen after time anyway, that’s putting aside that’s it’s bullshit in the first place. So several years even if that fantasy happens.

Economy has gone tits up in 3 days.

AloysiusBear · 28/09/2022 22:23

They are completely deluded....

It does feel exactly like that.
