I had an appointment at 9am this morning for a t section of highlights and trim and blow dry.
Arrive at 8.50 and she starts my hair at 9.10.
By 9.45 she's done the highlights and says she will leave them to say for 50 minutes.
At 10.30 am a lady turns up and my hairdresser tells her she is 45 mins late but will accommodate her.
So she gets the young apprentice to rinse my colour out 5 mins later.
She doesn't shampoo /condition or tone just rinses bleach off.
My hairdresser starts doing this lady's hair (full head of highlights)
I'm still sat at the sink at 11.30 am ...another 15 mins passes and she apologised and shampoos and conditions.
I finally leave the hairdresser at 1pm
Bare in mind this was literally a t section and trim.
Aibu to think it's pretty crappy to leave me sat there for a hour at the sink whilst she does the lady's hair (who arrived 45 mins late)
I arrive early and are expected to just wait.

I actually get why you didn't say anything. I'm pretty assertive generally, but there is something about being at the hairdressers that makes me feel very vulnerable. It's partly having wet hair (the thought of having to gather your things and leave, with wet hair, is very embarrassing). Also, the idea of having to settle back down and have someone cut and style your hair, when you have pissed them off by complaining is very awkward.

I always feel totally out and f my comfort zone in any beauty setting, and totally not confident about what is normal practice and what isn't!

in my experience they usually give you a ‘complimentary hair treatment’ and a cup of tea and a biscuit then get the junior to give a ‘complimentary head massage’ which essentially means they’re massively running behind and stalling for time!

I think I’d be tempted to email tomorrow. Say the more you’ve thought about the more you’ve realised how long you waited and you’ve realised how poor that is. Doesn’t need to be an angry whinge if you’re not confident enough, but I’d definitely let them know. And then see what happens.

I agree there is a loss of control at the Hairdressers and for some your out of your comfort zone. Like others have said its hard to complain before they cut and dry your hair . I have had my hair wrecked so many times. Put up with all kinds torture . I think its the potential of pulling your hair , overbleaching I have experienced it all. I even remember having one half of my highlights on one side lighter than the other side. That was Aveda at Harvey Nichols trying to persuade me that it was my hair’s fault with a straight face. That I actually had one half of my head with lighter hair please.
Honestly if you find a good colourist stick with them there are a lot of cowboys out there. I currently have overbleached silver roots to my golden blonde hair . Condition completely ruined spent the whole Summer wearing hats . Now I am in hairdresser limbo and too frightened to experiment with the next one . I really hate going to the Hairdressers but did love it once when I was in good hands .
At least she didn’t ruin your hair but leaving you in the stocks so to speak is really bad client treatment . Glad your hair looks nice but what an ordeal .

More than appalling service. OP you could have suffered serious nerve damage to your neck which may only be discovered weeks or months later.

Also, only washing out the bleach and not using the proper conditioners straight away may affect your hair.

Before Covid my hairdresser didn't operate an appointment system. They would start on your hair then leave you for awhile at certain points in the process while they worked on someone else. But they they didn't leave you when damage to you or your hair could occur. Also, the trick was to say at the start that you needed to be elsewhere at a certain time. That usully worked to speed things up.

Now they are sticking to appointments only which is much better.

Next time OP you need to find your voice and stand up to poor treatment.

“Serious nerve damage that might not be discovered for weeks or months” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂….honestly what drugs are you on!! And why nerve damage? Not ligament damage? A dislocation? A broken neck? 🤦🏼‍♀️😂😂😂😂

JustBeKinder · 30/09/2022 07:38

I was at the hairdresser yesterday for half head highlights, wash, cut, blow dry and chat and it normally takes 2 hours or 2 and a half hours max if someone else is fitted in while my highlights are cooking so 4 hours is way OTT, I would definitely give feedback to the hairdresser and then probs go to a different one next time 🤷‍♀️

There are plenty of cases of people being injured by hairdressers’ sinks if you disbelieve that.

Or were you allowed to sit up? At mine it's head back and wait. Hurts so much.

I can no longer afford the salon so not an issue for me anymore 😆

Why would you not be "allowed" to sit up?? Sure the OP didn't sit with her head hanging over the sink for an hour?

UWhatNow · 25/02/2023 13:59

What is the difference between hairdressers and waiters and other low paid workers like retail workers and administrators? But we feel compelled to tip one and not the other… it’s unfair. Nobody should be tipping when we have minimum wage. £20 says you have more money than sense.

SheeshPawowa · 25/02/2023 14:15

@UWhatNow how have you randomly ended up on a zombie thread accusing the OP of tipping £20 when she said nothing of the sort? Confused
