I had an appointment at 9am this morning for a t section of highlights and trim and blow dry.
Arrive at 8.50 and she starts my hair at 9.10.
By 9.45 she's done the highlights and says she will leave them to say for 50 minutes.
At 10.30 am a lady turns up and my hairdresser tells her she is 45 mins late but will accommodate her.
So she gets the young apprentice to rinse my colour out 5 mins later.
She doesn't shampoo /condition or tone just rinses bleach off.
My hairdresser starts doing this lady's hair (full head of highlights)
I'm still sat at the sink at 11.30 am ...another 15 mins passes and she apologised and shampoos and conditions.
I finally leave the hairdresser at 1pm
Bare in mind this was literally a t section and trim.
Aibu to think it's pretty crappy to leave me sat there for a hour at the sink whilst she does the lady's hair (who arrived 45 mins late)
I arrive early and are expected to just wait.

She quite obviously gets paid commission.

AirFryerNinja · 28/09/2022 19:15

If you're stupid enough to sit there for an hour..............

angela99999 · 28/09/2022 19:15

This happened to me once. She had a client who couldn't get an appointment who just turned up. She kept me sitting for a hour, I was livid and never went back.

lots of horrible ableist messages here telling OP off for not speaking up. Someone with anxiety or ASD would find it impossible to do this. Try to think outside your own narrow minded little boxes once in a while!

Lazy stereotyping.

I have ASD and I’d feel FAR more uncomfortable sitting there than walking out.

We CAN speak up.

paintitallover · 28/09/2022 19:15

I'm sick of my hairdresser too. She cuts and colours hair, but whilst she is doing it she manages all the other staff, talks with them endlessly and consults with other clients. It's a lot of money to be ignored by someone who evidently doesn't have their mind on the job.

angela99999 · 28/09/2022 19:16

(The salon closed down not long afterwards).

AllyCatTown · 28/09/2022 19:33

I’d find it so awkward to get up and storm out midway through an appointment. They’ve done some work so might want paid for it. Plus your hair’s in the sink wet so it’s hard to get up and storm off without it dripping down you. I supposed you could go get a towel to dry off but then you’d still go out with your hair in a state.

Longdistance · 28/09/2022 19:43

If I was left on my own I would’ve had a nice kip 😳

PatientlyWaiting21 · 28/09/2022 19:45

Why did you sit there for more than 15 mins, let alone an hour without saying anything?!

LuckySantangelo35 · 28/09/2022 19:48

ICanHideButICantRun · 28/09/2022 17:44

That is terrible. Did you give her a tip?

@ICanHideButICantRun

give her a tip?! She doesn’t even deserve paying, never mind a tip!

I don't think that poster was advocating giving her a tip 😂

Suzi888 · 28/09/2022 19:50

Why the hell did she leave you on the sink- there’s not a cats chance in hell I’d have stayed. I hate going in that damn basin, especially the ones that get lower and lower. I ended up trapped once where the basin pressure just meant I kept getting lower trying to get away from the weight.😂They had to lift it off me.

Didn’t they need to use the sink?

I think you’ve left it a bit late to complain, I’m not saying to don’t complain, it’s just that the moment has passed so to speak. It’s not a bad cut, or something that you’ve only realised once your home. I just think you should’ve said something at the time.

then she deserves all she gets eh?

terrible attitude

loseridiot · 28/09/2022 19:58

What a shame. Hope you're okay and find a nice hairdresser or DIY.

I tried and failed for so many years to get appointments at different hairdressers. One didn't have an appointment for three weeks and were closed when I went. Another didn't have time to dry my hair after washing so left with soaking wet hair in winter. Sadly some were unkind. I found it difficult to go in the first place and it got more and more uncomfortable.

Never again. I started buying box dyes and trimming it myself. It turned out to be useful during lockdown and much cheaper, especially now things are more expensive!

Longdistance · 28/09/2022 19:58

@LuckySantangelo35 the one I go to must be comfortable. The hairdresser gives me a head massage and I’ve almost nodded off before. But quite frankly, I’d be glad of the break.

bringbackveronicamars · 28/09/2022 20:04

Please email the managers and complain. This is not acceptable treatment.

lookatmeeeeee · 28/09/2022 20:04

@Suzi888 you have really really cheered me up with your basin story ...thankyou ha ha

They have 4 sinks as it's quite a big salon
They have around 8 stylists

HumourReplacementTherapy · 28/09/2022 20:15

That's poor op BrewSad
Don't let it put you off though, I know it can be difficult to speak up at the time so don't give it another thought. Just vote with your feet, and next time ask for an estimate re length of time it will take when you book.
You've got nice hair, they lost a customer so it's their loss Smile

SanFairyAnnie · 28/09/2022 20:17

I had a very rushed appointment at my former hairdresser's. The next client arrived and the hairdresser started chatting to her while drying mine-she was obviously a friend or relative. It wasn't the relaxing session I was expecting and I never went back.

sponsabillaries · 28/09/2022 20:20

OP, this was really dangerous. As pp have said the wrong angle at a hair washing sink can cause an arterial tear or a stroke. Please complain.

justasking111 · 28/09/2022 20:42

Happened to me once greedy owner overbooked the stylists run off their feet got there at 8.30 am said I had to leave by 11.50 to collect son. My hair was a perm cut and blow dry. Waiting around to even get started, finally did the perm then to the sink hair washed and conditioned again left there dripping. At 11.45 I grabbed a towel, rubbed my hair grabbed my bag and went to the till. Owner got very shirty you can't leave like that we'll look bad. I let her have it then, she couldn't charge for cut or blow dry. Was the middle of winter twas a cold walk to the car. I never went back

itsnotmeitisactuallyyou · 28/09/2022 20:42

i hate the whole hairdresser experience which is why i dont put myself through it,i have dry cuts and colour at home.

justasking111 · 28/09/2022 20:44

My MIL had a stroke at the hair dresser. We didn't realize then the cause possibly
