I had an appointment at 9am this morning for a t section of highlights and trim and blow dry.
Arrive at 8.50 and she starts my hair at 9.10.
By 9.45 she's done the highlights and says she will leave them to say for 50 minutes.
At 10.30 am a lady turns up and my hairdresser tells her she is 45 mins late but will accommodate her.
So she gets the young apprentice to rinse my colour out 5 mins later.
She doesn't shampoo /condition or tone just rinses bleach off.
My hairdresser starts doing this lady's hair (full head of highlights)
I'm still sat at the sink at 11.30 am ...another 15 mins passes and she apologised and shampoos and conditions.
I finally leave the hairdresser at 1pm
Bare in mind this was literally a t section and trim.
Aibu to think it's pretty crappy to leave me sat there for a hour at the sink whilst she does the lady's hair (who arrived 45 mins late)
I arrive early and are expected to just wait.

@LuckySantangelo35 the one I go to must be comfortable. The hairdresser gives me a head massage and I’ve almost nodded off before. But quite frankly, I’d be glad of the break.

@Longdistance

you must see though that you being of a break doesn’t excuse such piss poor customer service

oviraptor21 · 28/09/2022 17:48

Seriously? You had your head back in the neck rest of the basin?
Absolutely appalling "service".

Eh? They’re uncomfortable.

2pinkginsplease · 28/09/2022 21:06

I used to go to a hairdresser like this, too many customers and she ran between chairs, colouring, cutting , drying hair. The appointment always took much longer than required, It ended up that she got her apprentice to dry hair and I paid for a senior stylist to do it not the apprentice,

I spoke with my feet and went elsewhere.

@ICanHideButICantRun

give her a tip?! She doesn’t even deserve paying, never mind a tip!

agree - weird comment tonight.
lazy hairdresser guild maybe?

lookatmeeeeee · 28/09/2022 17:46

Nope I didn't tip or complain
I wasn't sure if this was normal to wait that long as I haven't had my hair done in so long.
I've got a bad head now off the sink rests
I didn't take my phone over so I was just sat there

You sat there for an hour and said nothing 🤣 you need to be assertive, it's a hair salon not a prison, you are allowed to move

I don't really believe someone had tgeur head in a sink for an hour. That has to be a substantial exaggeration.

Also, I'm not a fan of the 'mental health drip feed' in threads like this.

The service was obviously poor, but seemingly standard in that a hairdresser sees two or three clients at once?

Really not sure what to make of this.

TheLightSideOfTheMoon · 28/09/2022 19:15

Lazy stereotyping.

I have ASD and I’d feel FAR more uncomfortable sitting there than walking out.

We CAN speak up.

You might be able to speak up but many cannot. It isn't lazy stereotyping, it's true of a lot of mental health. I'm ND myself and I know that everyone is different. This lady clearly could not speak up.

Yerroblemom1923 · 28/09/2022 21:19

Are you happy with your hair or is it like straw now? Concerned about the washing bleach off without conditioner!

Sparklythings1 · 28/09/2022 21:23

yeah that’s not great 🙈 I would 100% have sat there and said nothing too though! Mine regularly takes on too many people and has someone in when I’m getting mine done. It’s as if you just get your colour left on for however long it takes to do the other persons hair rather than how long it actually needs

Flobbertybillop · 28/09/2022 21:25

There’s some really shitty comments on this thread.
Just because you can speak up, not everyone can. Some people have trouble doing that.

Thirdsummerofourdiscontent · 28/09/2022 21:27

That’s ridiculous, I would never go back.

Heswipedright · 28/09/2022 21:30

That's like my worst nightmare! A trip to the hairdressers is as traumatic to me as a flight is to someone with a fear of flying or a trip to the dentist is to someone with a fear of dentists.
My lovely hairdresser has gone out of her way for me as she knows what I'm like. I had horrific back pain last year and was getting highlights in. I hadn't taken codeine before going and hadn't brought any with me (I wasn't in pain on the way in!). The result was that I was almost crying in pain between the sink basin and having to lean my head back for her to do the highlights and the hairdresser (she's the salon owner and is the only one I will allow near me) found a little footstool and stood on that to avoid me having to lean back for her to get the foils as close to the scalp as possible. She knows that I suffer from anxiety and she's kind.

I would have spoken up. In fact, knowing me, I would have thrown a tantrum and walked out with the foils still in my hair!
Her prices include wash/cut/blow-dry along with the colouring. She is most amused that the minute my hair has the product taken out, I DEMAND to be released from the torture chamber.

SurpriseSurprise · 28/09/2022 21:44

I hate it when hairdressers do more than one client at a time. I’ve got a lady now who has a home salon and she’s amazing, but once she did it too. It really made me feel uncomfortable

Herejustforthisone · 28/09/2022 21:47

oviraptor21 · 28/09/2022 18:41

I avoided saying this in my earlier post but yes, the same happened to a friend of mine.

But please don't berate the OP. Some people are just not very good at speaking up for themselves, especially when they are not sure of the drill.

I wasn’t berating her. Merely pointing out a very frightening but very real outcome based on the hairdresser’s negligence.

You're daft thinking if it was normal to be under a sink for so long.

Herejustforthisone · 28/09/2022 22:33

I think you’ve misunderstood both the posts you commented on @underneaththeash

mamabear715 · 28/09/2022 22:38

How RUDE of her.
I used to go to a very popular hairdresser years ago & she got a bit cheeky, like we were best friends, asking me if I'd mind washing my own hair! :-0

Another got a Saturday girl to comb my long hair after washing. She combed it from the TOP. (If you have long hair, you'll know you start from the bottom few inches & work your way up.) It tangled & HURRRRT so much, I don't know how I didn't hit her..

lookatmeeeeee · 29/09/2022 08:08

I'm happy with my hair yes I love it
I did lie in the sink for a hour ,why would I lie
I kept moving around when it became a bit uncomfortable then moved up a bit so I wasn't fully in the sink.
It wasn't a drip feed either, someone asked why I didn't speak up and that's why

Sometimes my hairdresser does leave me waiting but she always asks me and always frames it as can I give you a free treatment and leave it on whilst I see the other client. I wouldn’t be happy if I was just left there!

Amy3500 · 29/09/2022 18:26

Also always sat up with my hair wrapped up and given a cup of coffee and lots of magazines so I don’t mind!

warmeduppizza · 29/09/2022 18:30

Wow, I can’t stand the sink for more than a few minutes. Your neck must be made of steel.

Mezema78 · 29/09/2022 18:31

I wonder if it’s the same one as I’ve been to! I waited an hour just for a trim before, even though I was on time for my appointment. The hairdresser is a friend so didn’t complain, but I’m never going again.

Yes, it's not just the hour delay that's bad but also not looking after OP during this time. No client should just be ignored for so long.

First mistake was letting someone be 45 mins late and carrying on. They should have been made to wait or if not possible rebook.

Frances0911 · 29/09/2022 18:51

Were you lying back on the sink for an hour? If so you could have damaged your neck.
