This really you never hear of any big or substantial lottery wins from an online lottery account holder? Was wondering if its just me who thinks this and it's just a big fix

Was it you who posted the other day?

ImJustNotMeAnymore · 28/09/2022 17:39

I agree, but still play my direct debit, same numbers since draw one 😐.

Getoff · 28/09/2022 17:39

I've never thought about it. How do we know whether or not winners have on-line accounts?

Explaintome · 28/09/2022 17:42

How would you know how they entered?

XenoBitch · 28/09/2022 18:00

I am pretty certain that the couple who won the £184 million Euromillions a couple of months back had an online account. I recall the husband referring to an email saying to log in as they had won an amount.

2bazookas · 28/09/2022 18:17

We know two unrelated Lottery winners of multi-millions. One was a next door neighbour and the other was an ex work colleague.

DoodlePug · 28/09/2022 18:20

Maybe online players are more likely to be the ones to tick no publicity?

Don't do the lottery do premium bonds 'win a million or your money back' 😁

That was my thought too, correlation between how people play and publicity. Similar to how it always seems a be a certain demographic who win big prizes

You know that the jackpot has been won by a regular ticket holder because they announce that they’re waiting for the winner to come forward.

When it’s won by an online account holder they already have the winner’s contact details.

snowbellsxox · 28/09/2022 18:30

I think it's always the older generation that winHmm haha I play set for life and win quite often small amounts

SunflowerSmith · 28/09/2022 18:32

The massive jackpot was won online recently, the winner said he received the usual 'news about your ticket' email, logged in and saw the balance was 100 million+

lap90 · 28/09/2022 19:18

I have heard of at least two people winning via the app, the most recent being the big win couple who went public.

in the Irish lotto my cousin used to work in a company nothing to do with lotto-don't want to reveal as its outing. He said that before every lotto draw they used to go out to the lotto and weigh the balls and inspect machine etc to insure there was no fixing.

The company had to sign off before each draw to prove nothing funny was happening, he said it was all highly regulated. I highly doubt lotto is a fix, the lotto and the government already make huge profits from it so why would they bother?

pfs · 28/09/2022 19:46

Also so many uk lotto wins you hear nothing of because the people don't go public, that's the majority and I don't think it's even stated whether it was purchased online or in a shop?

Don't they only give that info when they are trying to track the person?

MrsTeaShore · 03/10/2022 23:13

My friend won £500k on thunderball a couple of years ago. It come up in the online account just like a normal win message but instead of the message saying “you’ve won £2.40!” it said “ you’ve won £500,000!” And then you have to ring a number and start the claim. So it definitely happens online, it’s legit.

XelaM · 03/10/2022 23:16

My best friend won 50,000 online

YellowAndGreenToBeSeen · 03/10/2022 23:33

I worked for them. Online players win just as much as ticket players. There is no fix - the Lottery is only as successful as it’s winners. As IF it’s a fix FGS.

DorsetCafes · 04/10/2022 00:07

A relative works for the lottery. They say that they always try to persuade the big winners to do publicity by telling them it’s in their own best interests (the theory goes that if you don’t do publicity, the tabloids will try to track you down anyway) . However it’s really only in the lottery’s best interests, to get more people to play. Any remotely savvy winner would say no thanks very much.

PinkPanther57 · 04/10/2022 00:32

Re: online, if you win ‘big’, does the standard, initial, winning email message state ‘higher tier’?

people think it's as fix because all the big lottos mostly familiar to the people on mn have become so hard to win in the last decade. That ultimately means they are won less and less than in the past. The euro millions used to be 1 in 76 million, now it's 140 million hence why they never stop rolling over.
UK lotto was 1 in 14 million until around 2015 when it became 1 in 45 million and the Irish lotto is also much harder as it's 1 in over 10 million, considering Ireland has a population of under 5 million these odds mean less and less people are winning.

So yea there is no fix, just terrible bloody odds. The lotto is for those who don't understand statistics my maths teacher used to say.

Good point. Tbh I dont think we will ever know the truth about many things, and just do it and hope. My late Father years ago did football pools for many years. Spot the ball on a pic in a match, yet all those years and never won anything. It was for 1 million back then. A lady used to come every week to collect the payments. Was no online internet then. Yet these days you couldnt even buy a big house for that...
