I'm trying to find a motivational and poignant quote to think about each day. What's your favourite?

"You can't go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. "-CS Lewis.

pinok · 28/09/2022 12:17

What is for you, won't go by you.

im not sure about this! There are too many good people who just suffer and have non-stop shittiness in their lives :( And it never really works out. And vice versa.

"When going through hell, keep going." (Attributed to Winston Churchill)

My own motto for life is "It's not shit, it's fertiliser."

‘If you can’t go over, you must go under’.

Yiddish proverb

BigUpAllOfUshereOnMN · 28/09/2022 12:22

the world keeps turning and the sun comes up each day
And

You own it, you better never let it go
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to blow
This opportunity comes once in a lifetime

if your taking something of value somewhere, always put it in your trousers
cos it’s one hell of an emergency to lose your trousers-my dad

never give a child the spoon-you’ve lost it forever then-my grandad (who gave his pfb the spoon too early)

ReneBumsWombats · 28/09/2022 12:27

I don't adhere to this one nearly as much as I should, but it's good advice: If you're in the shit up to your ears, keep your mouth shut.

Dollydea · 28/09/2022 12:27

"I won't think about that today — I'll think about that tomorrow." - Gone with the Wind.

Probably not the most motivational 😂 but as someone who worries far too much about everything and anything, it's something I say to myself a good few times a day now.

“Everything in the world began with a yes. One molecule said yes to another molecule and life was born.” - Clarice Lispector, The Hour of the Star“Seventy-six years old," she whispers, "and I can still feel like this? Like a little girl with stars in my eyes?” - Anthony Doerr, All the Light We Cannot See“There is a perfection in everything that cannot be owned.” - Anais Nin, Delta of Venus“The eagle never lost so much time as when he submitted to learn of the crow.” - William Blake“I never saw a wild thing sorry for itself. A small bird will drop frozen dead from a bough without ever having felt sorry for itself.” - D. H. Lawrence^^

If you weren’t given love off a silver spoon you learn to like it off a knife.

You can have something that some others can never have - “Enough”.

You are who you surround yourself with - hang with the radiators not the drains.

In crisis prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

Feel the fear and do it anyway.

Courage doesn’t exist without fear.

Explains it but doesn’t excuse it (bad behaviour)

"The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it."
Omar Khayyám

If you weren’t given love off a silver spoon you learn to lick it off a knife.

But maybe “like” is an appropriate typo.

'Nobody else is going to put it right for me, nobody but me is going to change my story, sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.'

Always smile at this when the kids have the Matilda sound track on!

Our doubts are traitors,
and make us lose the good we oft might win, by fearing to attempt.
William Shakespeare

Just erotic. Nothing kinky. It's the difference between using a feather and using a chicken.

This too shall pass

Oh yes, this.

Reminds me of the lines from If

'If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, And treat those two imposters just the same'

Everyone falls down. Getting back up is how we learn to walk.

First think, second believe, third dream and finally- Dare.

The difference between winning and losing is most often not quitting.

"Take what you want... And pay for it"

"The best time to plant a tree is twenty years ago. The second best time is now"

The first is inspiring but sinister, the second is just inspiring!

Life is not waiting for the storm to pass.
It's about learning to dance in the rain.

RaininginDarling · 28/09/2022 12:56

A high tide raises all ships.

A good reminder, I often share.

Not inspiring perhaps but in the 90s, taped to my computer, I had George Orwell's "Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful, murder respectable and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind"

I did not enjoy corporate life. That quote seems ever more pertinent.
