Sending messages asking for money...aibu?

Seems like a common issue but I'm selling stuff on vinted, which basically is because of cost of living and struggling every month.
This month I've made around £150 but annoyingly all buyers chose Royal Mail shipping.
Now with Royal Mail I pay for postage and get that reimbursed once buyer clicks "received"
8 parcels and not one has done this.
All delivered last Thursday.
I sent a friendly "hope all is well with your parcel on Sunday"
Not one reply
Aibu to message asking them to mark as received and explain until they do I don't get paid.

That £150 is very much needed
And nearly £20 is postage out of my pocket

If they don't click received I don't get my money till 20 th October

YANBU, that would put me off selling on there to be honest. I'd rather use eBay.

LuckyLil · 27/09/2022 08:31

Ah. So you do get your money, just not when you wanted it?

Ponoka7 · 27/09/2022 08:32

It's fine to message them and ask them if they could click received. Just do it in a nice way, explaining that you won't get paid until they do.

wardrobesclosimh · 27/09/2022 08:32

@LuckyLil I post things out the very next day
I spend my money on postage so yes obviously as soon as it's delivered I should get my money as they have the item.
Not a month later ....

I think doing that would be fine. I have only just been able to pick up vinted parcels from my son as I was away for a couple of months, so sometimes it's a genuine reason.

mountainsunsets · 27/09/2022 08:33

This is what really puts me off ever selling on Vinted.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 27/09/2022 08:34

Disable royal mail as an option. I generally use yodel as its the closest drop off point for me. Yodrl and evri track so it just automatically marks it as received after 2 days. Doesnt put people off.

To make vinted work you need to spend some time setting up your options for delivery. I hate Royal mail. They just assume the package size and it's been wrong a few times potentially leaving me out of pocket.

wardrobesclosimh · 27/09/2022 08:36

I've had lots of issues with Royal Mail
Having to pay a extra 50p to post it as only receiving £2.85 from buyer
If it was the other way around and buyer paid and I decided not to post for a month there would be hell on ...but they think it's okay not to do a simple thing so we get paid

IWasFunBeforeMum · 27/09/2022 08:37

Go into settings and adjust the postage you use. I turned off royal mail.

MarshmallowsOnToast · 27/09/2022 08:38

Turn Royal Mail off as a postal option.

Use Evri or Yodel - the buyer pre-pays a shipping label, drop off in a locker/shop and it will update itself. You're never out of pocket.

namechange30455 · 27/09/2022 08:39

They're likely not doing it to piss you off, just don't know they need to. As a PP said if you don't use royal mail it tracks automatically. Just message them nicely, and then turn RM off as an option.

Nolosomi · 27/09/2022 08:40

I disabled using Royal Mail on Vinted for this reason. Just don’t give them the option!

lalaloopyhead · 27/09/2022 08:41

I think I switched off Royal Mail as a postage option because of this.

To be honest though until I started to sell stuff, as a buyer I wasn't aware the seller didn't get paid until I had marked the parcel as receieved. Once I knew I obviously mad sure I collected my parcel, checked it was ok and then marked as receieved as soon as I was able.

Womencanlift · 27/09/2022 08:42

People are choosing RM as the service from couriers is generally shit. Just look at threads about this very topic

I wouldn’t know that I have to do something so you get paid so maybe it’s just an education thing. I would, however, have second thoughts about buying something if RM wasn’t an option so keep that in mind too

BellaTheDarkOverlord · 27/09/2022 08:43

I've started using vintage this month to buy. I've noticed that I'll receive the item like today and the message to mark as received does not appear for like 3 days. I'll be like I've got it, let me mark it received. It's annoying as my vintage order would still stay "item on way" and it's not! I don't know if that's just me or there's a way around that though.

BamBamBilla · 27/09/2022 08:43

Turn off Royal Mail. The postage isn't calculated to what it should actually be and it just takes that long for the monies to clear through if the seller doesn't select everything is ok.

The money clears with Yodel and Evri in 2 days and you have tracking. You don't even need to know the buyers address as the label is create for you.

BradPittsLeftTit · 27/09/2022 08:44

As others have said, change your settings so that royal mail isn't an option.

I've only got Evri set up as an option as there's a drop off at the end of the road

RaininginDarling · 27/09/2022 08:48

I'm pretty new to Vinted. Bought a dozen things since the summer and it's clear you are expected to press the Received Item then Everything Okay button once you get the items. How can you not notice that? It's a notification, right in your app.

I wouldn't purchase something sent to a drop off point because I live rurally and it wouldn't be convenient- meaning a delay surely in me pressing those very buttons that presumably release funds to the seller?

I sell on eBay because I want control over when stuff is sold (so I can plan my trip to a post office)

Wonnle · 27/09/2022 08:52

Personally i'd not buy if the delivery options were Evri/Yodel .

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 27/09/2022 08:56

They may not know they need to do this, I had no idea the first time and felt really bad when I noticed. A friendly message wouldn’t bother me atall.

“hey I hope everything is ok with the parcel. I can see on the tracking you have received it and vinted do not release the payment until you confirm. Please can you mark this as received. Thankyou”

Ha ha ha! Love your name @LovelyBitOfSquirrrel

BattenburgDonkey · 27/09/2022 13:13

Just remove Royal Mail as an option if it causes you problems, it may put a few off but it may also save you some hassle as many people won’t care which option they choose.

LovelyBitOfSquirrrel · 27/09/2022 14:57

I have been waiting for this moment! Thankyou @RaininginDarling

Anon778833 · 27/09/2022 14:59

You can change your settings on Vinted so that Royal Mail is not an option at all - that’s what I did.

If the buyer doesn’t report a problem within a few days you should get paid anyway.
