People passing unhelpful comments!

Lovetogarden2022 · 26/09/2022 15:13

This is a real bugbear of mine and it's so annoying I'm sure other people can relate 😂

Why do people feel the need to say unhelpful comments, either on here or on Facebook groups, but also in real life? It drives me mad!

For example, a few people have posted in our local group asking if there are any houses for sale under £450k, for example, and the comments underneath are "ha! You'll be lucky finding a nice property for that price round here!!"

Or another woman asked where the best place to park in town was that wasn't going to be busy or extremely expensive, and loads commented "come and have a look for yourself. Don't be so lazy" etc

The tip of the iceberg was this morning when I politely asked if anyone would be interested in coming to a public event I'm hosting and a friend said "nobody will come to that - there's something else on that weekend" (the other "event" she's referring to is happening miles away and would have no effect on my event 🤣)

It's just not helpful or constructive!!!!!

Does my head in! Is this normal or am I just being unreasonable 🤣

Ooooh great thread @Lovetogarden2022

I want to offer one that has rankled me for awhile on here... Someone starts a thread, like a complaint about someone parking opposite their driveway making it hard for them to get out, or their new dress they bought in the Spring not fitting them at the moment. And some numpty pops along and says 'oooh, it must be lovely to have this as the only thing in your life to worry about!' Hmm

At NO point does the poster say this is the only thing they have to worry about in their life. It's such a twatty and obnoxious comment. EVERY SINGLE THREAD where someone is going on about something that is bugging them (not ruining their life, but is a bugbear,) SOMEONE comes on and says 'I wish that was all I had to worry about in MY life.' Just nob off! Hmm

@WhileMyGuitarGentlyWeeps YES! This infuriates me! Especially when it's something that is a genuine worry and concern 😂

When asking for recommendations for a plasterer/bricklayer/plumber and blokes (always blokes) direct you to Youtube so you can learn how to do plastering/bricklaying/plumbing.

On ours it’s always “looking for a personal recommendation of someone you’ve used not friends / family / self promo” and then always followed by “highly recommend Steve Wiggins” posted by… Steve Wiggins. Or his wife and you click on her name to see she’s posted exactly the same on every post looking for a trade

Yes , there was one on our local village Facebook page where someone had asked what time the Chinese opened and someone chipped in the the old ' learn to use Google ' . People are always asking things that Google could answer but it seems more personal if villagers answer .

People replying to dog adoption posts with "ohhh I'd love to have him but I've already got two dogs of my own!" WHY?! WHY WRITE ANYTHING THEN?!

Agree! That is one of the worst!

There was one the other day where a poster was concerned about the pool temperature for her little ones swimming lessons and lo and behold someone comes along to say she was BU for paying X for said swimming lessons. I mean WHY 😭😭

SoftwareDev · 26/09/2022 17:27

It really annoys me that numerous posters take the time to respond but don't actually read the OP.

For example:

OP: "My son is turning 3 and I'm not sure what to get him for his birthday."
Random Poster: "How old is she?"

or

OP: "I really want to go to my friends wedding but it's child free and my husband is abroad on business"
Random Poster: "Just get your husband to look after them."

I know - I really shouldn't use forums!

Daft! Confused Doesn't everyone pay for swimming lessons? (Well, most people.....)

These are making me laugh. It's so strange. It's like the person is replying as though somebody has asked the question directly to them, and not to dozens/hundreds/thousands of other people. Like they forget it's the Internet, not their own personal message.

For example....

Random Internet person: I have some kids' shoes in a size blah blah blah, if anyone is interested?

Random idiot: No thanks, my children are all grown up now.

Yeah, sometimes it is fairly genuine. And even if it seems a 'small' problem to some; to others, it can be a huge issue!

Happens LOADS on facebook! Shock

satelliteheart · 26/09/2022 17:31

I admin a group on Facebook and I honestly wonder sometimes if some members think it's obligatory to comment on every post. Just this week we've had

op: asks a question about parenting
Reply: I don't have kids
Then don't comment, it's optional ffs

OP: Can people please share photos of their utility room
Reply: I don't have a utility room
Again, just scroll past

Omg the most memorable one on here for me recently was the woman who'd flown in loads of things for a wedding from her home country and the luggage got lost and she was devastated about it and one person completely derailed it by talking about their friend who'd gotten diagnosed with cancer Confused

I'm sorry that no one is able to feel really upset by something because you're more upset

My opposite pet peeve to this is when someone starts a thread discussing a particular person and someone pops up: who's that?

GOOGLE. 😂

People on Facebook typing "f" or "following"

And on Mumsnet, instead of bookmarking

NippyWoowoo · 26/09/2022 17:44

People rushing to 'contribute' to a thread but totally missing the point.

Another recent example: OP asks 'which people don't you consider attractive that everyone else seems to consider attractive?'

Most people understand the brief and the lists begin.

Then, annoyingly, MORE than one poster saunters in to say 'oh I don't find any of the names here attractive! I have a much more cool/alternative taste that's above basic'.

Yes that's the POINT, give us your list or scroll along!

Yes, and along the same lines “Am I the only person that thinks… <insert completely mainstream view that isn’t contentious in any way whatsoever”

also when there is a thread about a celeb someone always comes on to say “Kim Kardashian? Never heard of her. Who is she?”. 1. Literally everyone ever has heard of her 2. If you haven’t then this isn’t the thread for you and 3. Google it

Or the evergreen "I just couldn't bring myself to care about this". Yeah, thanks for that.

AnuSTart · 26/09/2022 18:09

In fairness the other one is when people tell victims of DV or Emotional Abuse to just leave him!!!

Actually I do get how frustrating it is. It's awful knowing that women won't. But in the end, if it were that easy no one would be with some dumb twat who likes to abuse their spouse.

SnowyPetals · 26/09/2022 18:30

My SIL is terrible for making FB posts about her by adding irrelevant comments. When my DC were younger I used to post funny/cute things they had said. One was:
Me to DS: Ooh it's Wednesday, what do we do on Wednesdays? (expecting him to say go to his favourite playgroup)
DS: We put the bins out 😀

SIL instead of enjoying the joke, immediately comments "My bin day is Friday. I think that's much more convenient ahead of the weekend"

🙄🙄

JAC76 · 26/09/2022 18:39

Yes, I think the autonomy of social media makes people speak stupidly sometimes.

Somebody was looking for recommendations for work trainers, I recommended a pair I like and I know lots of other people wear them too, somebody responded ewww they’re frumpy - cheers love!

Surtsey · 26/09/2022 18:43

What really bugs me is when someone asks a random question on MN, and one of the first answers is 'Google it'.

Chances are that the person has done just that already and found themselves following one of the top hits and ended up on MN, hoping it is the right place to come.

This was the exact one I was thinking of! Precious items she couldn’t replace without going back and people were making it she was making a fuss!
