Black Monday anyone? The tories should be in jail

Upthebracket22 · 26/09/2022 06:51

The pound is now at its lowest point against the dollar since decimalisation in 1971 at 1.03. It’s probably going lower and the Bank of England will likely need to step in with an emergency interest rate rise today. Black Monday possibly?

All because of the mini budget on Friday. The Tories should be in jail. Especially if their rich backers were shorting the pound as it appears to get rich.

What do we think interest rates will peak at? And how many people will lose their homes thanks to the "Conservatives".

Many did lose their down payments in the early 90s, I knew someone who invested a considerable (for the time) £40,000 in a flat, a legacy from his aunt, and lost the lot.

Householders are already panicking and raising house prices in order to cushion the blow.

I see the same old benefits claimants on here fighting for more for doing nothing day in and day out on here...

Not looking at anyone in particular.

Or maybe they're just fighting to have enough to live on because their circumstances won't allow them to be anything other than benefit claimants?

May be check the facts over the shrinking of the Euro and other currencies against the dollar before starting these threats. This helps no one and is in fact counterproductive.

I don't see anyone making threats - just people airing differing opinions.

BirmaBrite · 26/09/2022 11:54

@Kissingfrogs25 You really have just proven you simply do not understand what the government are actually doing in any shape or form

What are they actually doing ?

So far it seems to be cutting taxes and borrowing even more money, when its really expensive to do so. Or is that wrong ?

vera99 · 26/09/2022 11:55

The cops have just knocked on my door and we had a bit of a chuckle and I apologised for wasting their time. Now back to my Momentum work....

BirmaBrite · 26/09/2022 11:43

To whom? Who’s going to buy all those houses?

Investors often do well when banks sell repossessed properties, be they commercial or residential.

Yes - there are lots of people with cash available ready to snap up repossessions.

Thank you. I knew I was right.

The question has to be asked. With employment so historically low, why has users of foodbanks risen exponentially under a Conservative led government in the last 12 years?

Liz, is that you? Or does the ghost of Maggie walk today?

vera99 · 26/09/2022 11:58

James O'B has an expert on now saying now gilt futures are betting on 6% BOE interest rates and if they don't then the pound will slump again. At parity to the dollar many Tory backbenchers saying they won't vote for the budget. Rishi get ready....

CherryGenoa · 26/09/2022 11:59

@Kissingfrogs25 my workforce is 85 strong. I AM a wealth creator. I come from an ordinary background, I have some staff who are extremely anxious about the current climate of uncertainty. Pragmatically, a weak economy makes business more challenging, especially with Brexit effects ongoing.

I read widely and follow a selection of well regarded economists. I don’t know what else you expect me to research.I am already in a dialogue with my MP about the state of the economy and this awful budget. I have a meeting booked with him for early October. How in your view should I prepare so that I am ‘informed’?

Nah, it’s a Tory central office bot. An early model before they ironed out the glitches by the look of it.

IndigoC · 26/09/2022 12:00

I find this so exasperating because they’ve f**ked the pound and the housing market for what? To give a tiny percent of taxpayers, the seriously wealthy, a tax cut. It’s not even policy likely to generate any genuine growth. Trickle down economics has been debunked.

Lonelycrab · 26/09/2022 12:00

Speaking of Rishi, here’s something I just saw, a cartoon from the Spectator a few weeks back, taking the piss out of him. That aged well…

Erm no, we're angry that our hard earned taxes are going to waste. That our country's assets are being depleted to make a select few wealthy at the expense of decimating our country so we are all f**d.... we are angry that money is being borrowed that future generations will have to pay back. Many of us would rather pay more taxes and have decent public services for our families rather than see the country run into the ground.

the80sweregreat · 26/09/2022 12:01

Won't be enough people not voting for it though
Many will back her to the hilt despite everything
What are the possible figures ? Is it just the conservatives who vote for it , or everyone ?
I'm a bit unclear if it is going to a vote anyway ?

Being in employment is no guarantee that you can make ends meet. Or have the massive hikes in energy and the knock on effects passed you by ?

AuntSalli · 26/09/2022 12:02

Blossomtoes · 26/09/2022 11:40

That will decimate the housing market, driving many into forced sales.

To whom? Who’s going to buy all those houses?

Well just as an example people who have just received a 5% tax cut.

WhatdoImean · 26/09/2022 12:02

OK - that cartoon is brilliant!

REALLY did not age well!

Freudenhaus · 26/09/2022 12:05

Look you lot, there is a worse performing currency than stg - the poverty stricken/cyclone-hit/flood-soaked Madagascan ariary!

Don't do Britain down!

TalkSomeSense1 · 26/09/2022 12:06

Upthebracket22 · 26/09/2022 07:20

@Boxin yes they should be in jail- shorting the pound for their rich mates- it’s disgusting!

Not baiting but genuinely interested to know what your fiscal plan would have been pre the mini-budget and how you saw it working long term?

Endlesssummer2022 · 26/09/2022 12:06

‘That will decimate the housing market, driving many into forced sales.’

‘To whom? Who’s going to buy all those houses?’

Foreigners taking advantage of the weak pound. Particularly middle class Indians who are being enticed to come over and do technology jobs as many of the U.K. population who yell about being left behind, have no interest in retraining.

Freudenhaus · 26/09/2022 12:07

I mean, to be honest, any tax clawed back is erased by inflation anyway so it's all a big nothing burger

Brilliant and that's pretty much what he said but the Hyacinth Bucket mob and disgusted of Tunbridge Wells wanted that lovely Maggie knock-off so here we are.

Don't worry more immigration will sort out our myriad of problems

Come to Britain oh skilled foreigners!

We can offer you checks notes less money than other Western nations due to the accelerating collapse of our currency and our entirely broken housing system, fewer job protections than in Europe, some of the most restrictive policies against unions of any major economy, and a social atmosphere of rampant xenophobia! Come bathe in our toxic rivers and consume the food which we're progressively making less safe! Want to make sure you'll be looked after if you get sick? Fraid not, we've been deliberately running down the NHS so good luck finding a dentist or seeing a GP! Thinking about having a kid? Lol don't bet on childcare. Oh and if you think you'll be welcome past the very moment you've stopped being useful we've some bad news for you ...

I don't reckon this will be pulling in the best and brightest any time soon.

Lonelycrab · 26/09/2022 12:09

Yes agree. That model still has the swivelling eyes, throbbing forehead vein and a bit of dribble coming from the bottom lip. Was ironed out with later bot versions so maybe that one escaped the recallGrin
