To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

You will be so dehydrated you'll need fluids, I would go in. I had terrible food earlier in the year and was vomiting like you are going toilet, they told me I should have come in sooner

AreolaGrande · 26/09/2022 07:12

Sounds almost identical to when I had salmonella earlier this year.

I ended up going to A+E when I started passing blood. Turns out I was severely dehydrated with damage to my kidneys. Needed 4 litres IV fluid and antibiotics. Was admitted overnight.

Go to A&E if you haven't already OP and hope you feel better soon. It was the worst pain I've ever experienced.

Zonder · 26/09/2022 07:17

Hope you're at A and E and being seen.

BirmaBrite · 26/09/2022 07:17

It worries me that you can't lie down due to the pain ?

I think a visit to A&E to get checked over would be sensible, they can take your bloods and get the results back quickly, give you fluids and antibiotics if you need them and get you seen by another speciality if its something else.

shedwithivy · 26/09/2022 07:21

You would admit a dog for fluids at the vets with these symptoms (that's not me being rude op, you do sound very poorly)

Herejustforthisone · 26/09/2022 07:23

Jesus, are we still getting ‘sounds like Covid’ posts on literally any symptoms??

No. It doesn’t. It sounds much more likely to be a bacterial bug which is causing gastroenteritis. Which can be extremely unpleasant.

Try rehydration sachets, I wouldn’t take Imodium and I’d phone 111 for advice.

Daisydoor12 · 26/09/2022 07:23

Hope you get seen don’t just sit and wait. Reminds me of my father last year he was diagnosed with salmonella typhi and then sepis. He was in hospital for 8 days on numerous antibiotics and took a couple of months to return to full fitness. Public health England were involved and linked to several other cases in the country. If I hadn’t contacted the doctor who in turn sent him to hospital things may have been very different.

Annigolden · 26/09/2022 07:24

I had food poisoning once and it was just like this.

Summersdreaming · 26/09/2022 07:24

Sounds similar to when my friend caught E.Coli from a cafe. She was very ill for 10 days. Please speak to a doctor, they might need a sample to test because they will report it and the places you've been to eat will be looked into.

RosesAndHellebores · 26/09/2022 07:25

Hi OP, if you are still at home, I'd pay a few quid and speak to a GP through Livi or Boots. Meanwhile get some dioralyte in. DH can do that after the school run.

itsaich · 26/09/2022 07:28

I've been to A&E with stomach pains myself but I wouldn't have been able to type anything. I was screaming, the pain was on par with labour. I got given morphine.

I've also been similar to how you sound now, with a bug, vomit, liquid poo, light and sound sensitivity, shaking. It can be that bad. I just remained in bed for three days and got over it. this was last year.

Sometimes you just need rest and eat and drink what your body allows.

Doingprettywellthanks · 26/09/2022 07:31

Your husband needs to cancel. No ifs or buts.

you don’t need to go to a&e. You do need to rest and very important to replace fluids.

Theluggage15 · 26/09/2022 07:34

Ignore the idiots saying you don’t need to go to A&E. They probably can’t tell the difference between a graze and a limb hanging off.

Doingprettywellthanks · 26/09/2022 07:34

Anyone AS the OP?

i have. Two days previous to this thread she starts one…

Hi all. I had Covid 3 months ago and I have been constantly unwell since. Off top of my head I’ve had an infected wisdom tooth, a sinus infection, tonsillitis, a constant cough and cold, conjunctivitis, 3 D&V bugs, I could go on. I phoned the GP last week and she said it’s to be expected following covid and will be being made worse having 2 young children in childcare.

CrapBag39 · 26/09/2022 07:37

how are you now OP? Did 111 call back?

This happened to my dad last year. He waited at home until his kidneys began failing and had sepsis. He was admitted straight to HDU.

justusandmoo · 26/09/2022 07:39

I was like this a number of years ago after a dodgy curry. The pain was horrendous! I didn't go to the hospital but just reached the point where i could keep some strong painkillers down and I eventually fell asleep. Hope it passes quickly. Does sound like the chicken burger did it x

Fluffygreenslippers · 26/09/2022 07:39

It’s Norovirus, it’s doing the rounds at the moment. There’s a big sign at my local hospital. Don’t go in, you’ll infect everyone & probably shit yourself sitting waiting there for eight hours. Buy some Imodium and full sugar coke.

So?

SD1978 · 26/09/2022 07:43

Norovirus or food poisoning. A&E isn't going to fix that, your husband has to cancel his trip. Going to A&E to crap in their waiting room for hours really wouldn't be an option I'd be going for.

Frazzled2207 · 26/09/2022 07:44

Hope you’re ok. Def an A&E job. Husband has to reschedule.

sallywinter · 26/09/2022 07:47

Could be campylobacter.

Everyone saying A + E isn’t the place, have you read the experiences up thread? My partner had this after eating a chicken burger in a pub and had to have IV fluids and antibiotics.

hope you feel better soon

sallywinter · 26/09/2022 07:49

We’d had norovirus a few months earlier and knew it wasn’t that - he was so so much sicker with shaking, temps, pain. Also didn’t improve in 48 hours.

This. It’s rife atm.

hopeishere · 26/09/2022 07:52

Sounds awful hope 111 have been some help.
