To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

you need some diarolite to replace lost salts.

My point is that the op isn't spreading Covid or a D&V bug by going to A&E as the hospital will have a plan to keep infections patients away from the others.

Yes I was agreeing. Apologies, wasn't clear.

ScarlettDarling · 26/09/2022 06:17

You poor thing, sounds horrendous. I had similar-although not as painful- a few years ago which was campylobacter. Once diagnosed it was easily treated with antibiotics. Hope you hear back from 111 soon.

Indoctro · 26/09/2022 06:20

You need to go to A&E

My friend got food poisoning off shell fish and was in hospital for 10 days

It started like yours and progressed rapidly down hill.

Ignore the terrible advice to stay at home

People can die from food poisoning

5YearsLeft · 26/09/2022 06:20

@Havanawinter You poor, poor thing!!! Over 50 times a day is concerning IMO, yes. Not to be TMI, but how are you even removing yourself from the loo often enough to return to it 50 times a day??? I really would call 111. It may be at this point that you’re beyond oral rehydration solutions, and need to be rehydrated in hospital. Do you feel very cold and clammy? I’ve always known when I was sick enough to need rehydration in hospital because I was absolutely freezing cold. Even exhaling felt so cold on my face. I’ve not usually heard of that as long as someone can keep fluids down, but if the diarrhea is that severe, then I would assume it would cause the same thing. So please do call 111 - I’m sure they can tell you what else to look for (excessive paleness in certain areas, like your face or your hands, etc, something like that). I hope perhaps you’re either resting or 111 have given you advice by now, since it’s several hours later.

DoorSofa · 26/09/2022 06:23

I would go and get checked. I had these symptoms and had campylobacter. Was really poorly and ended up admitted for 6 nights as I was so dehydrated and my blood chemistry/infection markers were so unstable. I did go to GP and was sent to A&E. took several courses of strong IV then oral antibiotics and was the worst I’ve ever felt
you absolutely have my sympathy and hope you feel better very soon

Perfect28 · 26/09/2022 06:26

Make an electrolyte solution with salt and sugar. Keep drinking and resting. Your oh will have to cancel his trip.

Kazibar · 26/09/2022 06:32

If I’m uk defo call 111

Midlifemusings · 26/09/2022 06:34

Sounds like food poisoning. It can be pretty serious and you can need hospitalization. Given it has been 48 hours and you have blood in your stool, I would go and get it checked out

I would take sips of Gatorade or something with some electrolytes in it.

Darbs76 · 26/09/2022 06:35

Go to A&E if the pain is that bad. My friend had salmonella and they gave her pethidine in A&E for the pain. Not being able to lie down sounds like more than just a bout of normal D&V. Good luck

October2020 · 26/09/2022 06:38

There's no chance it could be gallstones is there?

Ring 111 but they'll tell you to go to A&E. I hope you feel better very soon x

sparklecement · 26/09/2022 06:41

Hope you’ve managed to get some sleep op.

Donttakeafence · 26/09/2022 06:47

I see the a&e guards are out in force tonight. I do think this is likely to be food poisoning and a&e is a consideration for dehydration and potentially antibiotic treatment. I am concerned about the logistics of being in hospital waiting with such frequent toilet needs but it might be the best place.

girlmom21 · 26/09/2022 06:51

I hope your DH cancels his trip

VaccineSticker · 26/09/2022 06:51

Go to A&E as soon as possible if you haven’t. Can’t believe some people are saying stay put😡😡. You have food poisoning and you are at risk on dying if you don’t get antibiotics asap.

madasawethen · 26/09/2022 06:51

OP I hope you've been seen and treated and are on the mend.

I've had food poisoning twice and it was the most horrible experience.
I spent most of it lying on the bathroom floor and on the toilet.

VaccineSticker · 26/09/2022 06:55

Havanawinter · 26/09/2022 02:32

@QuestionableMouse yes, temp comes and goes and sometimes I’m boiling sometimes freezing

You have an infection. Ignore all the silly advice on here and take yourself to A&E you will need to have antibiotics on the drip.

olympicsrock · 26/09/2022 06:56

I’m a doctor. You should go to the Emergency Department as this sounds pretty extreme. You must be dehydrated and losing electrolytes which can be very serious.
You need to be checked out and have tests done and rehydrating with a drip. This is not a case for the GP or just sitting it out at home.
Don’t take Immodium.

Cupofteaonesugar · 26/09/2022 07:02

Oh OP I really couldn't think of much worse!
My bowels can get like this when I have a bug but not quite as many times!
I really hope you went to hospital as I would be worrying about dhydration!

Foxinmygarden · 26/09/2022 07:03

Another Mumsnet myth - thou shalt never go to A&E with diarrhoea.
As a fellow medic above says, this sounds completely A&E worthy.

bakebeans · 26/09/2022 07:05

its sounds like gastroenteritis or you have picked up some kind of food poisoning. If no improvement, you need to submit a stool sample at the GP surgery to see what the cause is. Keep drinking plenty of fluids. A&e isn't the place. I wouldn't take Imodium either because you need to allow your body to get rid of it

GabriellaMontez · 26/09/2022 07:06

Hope you've been seen. And your husband need ls to cancel work of course. Its one of those things.

Badgirlriri · 26/09/2022 07:07

Fellow medic? says who? Some random on the internet?

Call 111 and they will advise.

Namechangedforspooky · 26/09/2022 07:09

I work in A&E. You should definitely go there if your diarrhoea is that bad and you have severe pain. They will be able to help your symptoms even if you need to wait
I hope you feel better soon

LIC1985 · 26/09/2022 07:10

I hope your doing ok OP I agree with others this absolutely sounds like A & E ! I hope you have been seen
