To go to A&E? I’m desperate.

Early hours of Saturday morning (48 hours ago) I woke with the worst stomach cramps. I’ve been pooing liquid ever since, over 50 times a day. I can’t keep anything in. I haven’t been sick but I feel sick. It’s getting no better, the stomach cramps are indescribable, I can’t even lie down they’re so awful. I feel like death and I’m scared of dehydration. Do I call 111? Go to A&E? DH meant to be away in London for work tomorrow and I have 2 young kids by myself. I need help.

Did the surgery not have your test results back yet? I hope they have them this morning...

JuneOsborne · 29/09/2022 07:37

Sounds like campylobacter to me.

People who have had campy never, ever forget it. It can easily last a week or a little longer. One of the features of it, aside from blood in the stool, can be fizzy poo, a lot like shitting coca cola. And that's what gives you the cramps, all the gas it produces.

It is usually self limiting, meaning it will go on its own, but the problem is hydration and the lack of hydration is what sees people needing medical help.

Hope you feel better soon.

Icantstopeatinglol · 29/09/2022 07:44

Yea I had campylobacter once and my dm took me to a&e I was that ill with it. Although they sent me away because I 'only' had diarrhoea and not vomiting. Apparently if I had campylobacter I would be vomiting too. That wasn't what came back from my tests a few days later though. I can't even remember the ins and outs I was that ill. I think someone from an environmental place came out after I got the results to work out where it was from and we think it was from using a wooden chopping board (doesn't clean as well as glass). Glass all the way from then on. Moral of the story is the hospitals aren't always right so keep on at them if you're not happy. I was ill for two weeks with it. Hope you feel better soon.

Havanawinter · 29/09/2022 07:49

I haven’t been given any medication because they haven’t had my results back yet. Regardless of that I’m going to call them today to ask for help because I can’t keep going on like this. And yes the poo looks like fizzy mint sauce today, very weird!

I'm going to say C diff. Once smelt never forgotten. My dad only threw up once with that. He got 5 days in hospital with barrier nursing.

londonrach · 29/09/2022 08:00

Please chase the results op. Sounds awful x

londonrach · 29/09/2022 08:01

Hope you feeling better soon

Hi OP

Sorry I know not the point of the thread but have you contacted the place where you ate or a no win no fee solicitor? If you think the source was a chicken burger there is a chance of a claim for compensation and they need to know so that they can ensure it doesn't happen again

buttons123456 · 29/09/2022 08:39

I don't know anything about food poisoning but I read a book once about E. coli and it isn't to be messed with ..

I'm not one to over react but I think you should go back to a and e or at least call 111 and see someone at a hospital !

Your organs could be affected !

Sixsmith · 29/09/2022 08:39

I read this story on the news this morning it made me so sad. If he'd gone to A&E he might have been OK. So never be sorry about going to A&E, better to be safe than sorry. Passing blood is a worrying sign so you did the right thing

Sixsmith · 29/09/2022 08:41

Just realised that might freak you out, sorry xx

maranella · 29/09/2022 10:58

Fizzy mint sauce? Sounds like you're passing bile.

OP, please stop eating and drinking random stuff. Orange juice FGS? That's pure, sugary acid and would be terrible for an upset stomach, particularly one where you're waiting for results of possible campylobacter, salmonella, etc.

If you must eat something (and I appreciate you must be feeling very hungry at this point), stick to the blandest possible food you can - plain boiled rice, plain bread or toast, dry crackers. Don't eat or drink fruit or fruit juice, dairy products, fats of any kind - all will only make things worse.

maranella · 29/09/2022 11:01

Oh and on the subject of campylobacer - when I had it I didn't vomit at all. Just upset stomach, horrible crampy pains and lots of mucus in my stool. I felt awful, very nauseous, crampy, gassy, etc.

Fullsomefrenchie · 29/09/2022 11:09

Op habe you have had the results? I had similar and it was also after anti biotics, so yes you guessed it, they gave me more anti biotics and also i took pro biotics to replace the good bacteria.

The anti biotics they gave me, and they did it before the stool sample results as I Was in such a bad way, knocked it on the head very quickly. It was only last year but I can’t t recall what it was but it was an infection that got in of the food poisoning variety but as the anti biotics had previously stripped the good bacteria it literally took me down.

GobbolinoTheWitchesCat · 29/09/2022 11:28

I also think you should go back to hospital. Please call them op.

everylittlehelp5 · 29/09/2022 12:39

C diff smells horrid

Doingprettywellthanks · 29/09/2022 12:41

Is your OH off?

Doingprettywellthanks · 29/09/2022 12:43

Are you managing to eat anything?
you must be haemorrhaging weight?

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:43

Just go back to the hospital they've been involved up till now.

Havanawinter · 29/09/2022 12:51

I have called them, no results yet. I don’t want to be pushy because god knows I’m no more important than anyone else, but it’s gutting not to have any answers. I’m just plodding on. And I know the OJ was stupid. Lesson learnt. Today I’ve had a breadstick which to be fair has my stomach in bits as well. I spoke to a very sympathetic doctor who said her finger was “hovering over the prescribe button” for antibiotics but she can’t do it until they have results back, which is understandable.

I’m determined to make this holiday, I cannot let everyone down by pulling out at the 11th hour.

Havanawinter · 29/09/2022 12:52

I’ve lost 12lbs.

OP posts:
Doingprettywellthanks · 29/09/2022 12:53

who is looking after your children?
i can’t believe you’re considering a holiday, especially as could well be contagious

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:55

If you really think this holiday is still possible then that's grand. I'm not so sure

JacquelineCarlyle · 29/09/2022 12:56

Oh Op, that's so rotten for you. Hope you get to the bottom of it and get yourself sorted soon.

justasking111 · 29/09/2022 12:57

Have you reported the eaterie to environmental health they may well have results from other sufferers which would help the NHS enormously.
