To hate sitting opposite manspreading men

Not an AIBU more of a rant really. Went for a meal this evening, sat opposite a bloke at the table. He isn’t tall - I’d say 5’7” - but he stretched his legs out so that they were in my space under the table. I told him to keep them his side but he kept ‘unconsciously’ doing it again. I had open toe shoes on too so he kept stepping on them when he spread out. I’m not sitting opposite men ever again! Why do they do this?! Tuck them in like women do FFS.

I take it you know this man? I’d just tell him to stop it, it’s really bloody rude to invade someone’s space like that.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 25/09/2022 19:32

I do and I did tell him but he kept doing it over again and saying ‘oops sorry doing it unconsciously’ sort of bullshit.

He wants you to think his dick is so ginormous that he can't help it 🙄

BakedTattie · 25/09/2022 19:34

Why didn’t you say “well fucking stop it then” at his excuse?

or stamped on his foot?

VladmirsPoutine · 25/09/2022 19:35

Was it a date? Your partner?
If you know they guy it's much easier than say on public transport on which these men attempt to open their legs the entire width of the carriage.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 25/09/2022 19:36

No it was a friend’s new DP. I felt like I was forever getting pissy and really didn’t enjoy the meal because of it.

What a twat, not made a good impression of himself there has he.

I’d have been tempted to swap seats with someone if that was a possibility, how does a grown man not know to repeatedly step on someone’s feet, what an idiot.

mynamesnotMa · 26/09/2022 11:14

BakedTattie advice is the best

KimberleyClark · 26/09/2022 11:17

If he was sitting opposite you and his legs were getting into your space he must have been stretching his legs out, not manspreading

PeekabooAtTheZoo · 26/09/2022 11:23

He was doing it to wind you up and ride over your boundaries after you stated them. No one is that clueless. I feel sorry for your friend if this is his public face.

Its still manspreading, but in a different direction to the usual sideways move.

This!!

faw2009 · 26/09/2022 14:41

I would have swapped seats with the friend or someone else!

Oliverfunyuns · 26/09/2022 15:01

An exaggerated "Ow!" every time he stepped on your foot might shame him into paying attention.

He sounds weird. What kind of person does that repeatedly? How has he never learned how to behave in polite society?

candycaneframe · 26/09/2022 15:04

Why do they do this?

Oh I don't know, maybe because they have shit between their legs that women don't and therefore don't enjoy sitting on them.

idonotmind · 26/09/2022 15:06

Just kick him hard under the table

Always4Brenner · 26/09/2022 15:07

Accidentally on purpose kick foot and say ooh sorry it’s cramped here.

RatherBeRiding · 26/09/2022 15:08

I find that a stiletto heel on the instep is quite effective in this type of situation with an "Oops sorry, was that your foot?" And repeat.
