so I got a cold last week, it came on on Mon - took tues and wed off as I was on the rota to be in the office. Worked Thurs & Fri - was working from home, so felt ok to do that. Now the cold is gotten worse - cant stop sneezing, shivery etc etc. It's not covid I tested. Am on the rota again mon tues wed. Feel like I have to go in. Cos I worked thurs and fri. Am nearly crying thinking about travelling in. I guess I could magically be better tomorrow . I wouldnt mind sitting at home answering emails - most of my job (!) - but we are not allowed. It happened before and manager said to me 'if you're not well enough to come in you're not well enough to work'. So she will make me take sick leave. I'm so worried as I think I'm coming to the limit of the uncertified sick days. Guess I just have to suck it up and go in don't I. Plus I'll be spreading my germs around. 6 and we are going out so if I'm at work I won't get home til 630 so we won't make it to the show in time. And Fri is similar - have to take ds to football which is fine when I'm wfh but am too late back if I'm in the office. Thanks for reading. Just feeling ultra sorry for myself but I'm sure I'll be fine just have to get through it.

Not feeling ok to go into work, but ok to go to a show after work?

NoSquirrels · 24/09/2022 17:43

Your manager sounds inflexible - isn’t there the opportunity to swap days with colleagues so you go in Weds/Thurs/Fri instead?

Ilikewinter · 24/09/2022 17:44

You can self certify for 7 days, if you worked Thurs & Fri then your days will reset.
However it sounds like you dont want to go into the office because you'll miss your show.

It’s only Saturday. Rest this weekend and you’ll be well enough by Monday.

Plus if you’re planning on going out you’re obviously not that ill. Work is the first priority for physical illness - social stuff is the stuff you bin off first, not the other way round.

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 24/09/2022 18:08

Such a shame that work gets in the way of your social life, eh?!
FFS, you've already taken 2 days off with a COLD and you're already whining about Monday, which is over a day away.
🤦🤦🤦

I would happily miss the show but it's been booked for months - I'm not even into the play, it's very academic for me but dd was desperate to go so I booked it for her birthday. Yeah you're all right I'm a whiny bitch.

It's rubbish feeling rough but, it's only Saturday.

I'd dose up on paracetamol and rest today and tomorrow. You will likely be on the mend and well enough for work on Mon. Especially as it started a week ago.
