I just gave her some Corona Zero and DP hit the roof saying I'm giving her the taste for alcohol.

Context?

Vapeyvapevape · 23/09/2022 18:54

Was it a whole can or just a sip ?

DoIHaveTooo · 23/09/2022 18:55

TooGosh · 23/09/2022 18:52

It's not normalising alcohol consumption, it's alcohol free! I'm an alcoholic and would allow my child to try it.

With all due respect, you're an alcoholic, I wouldn't be listening to you for advice 🙄

Celia24 · 23/09/2022 18:55

Absolutely not on OP

LiftyLift · 23/09/2022 18:57

It’s literally designed to taste like the alcoholic version. They still ID people buying it in shops. Of course you don’t give it to kids.

MaybeIWillFuckOffThen · 23/09/2022 18:57

I think people are being a bit mad here. I'm assuming this was a "can I have a taste mummy?" situation not "here love have a bottle of this" one. It's an alcohol free malted beverage. I don't let my kids drink pepsi but if I was drinking some and my 5yo asked for a sip I'd give it to her. Will I have safeguarding after me as well??

SapphosRock · 23/09/2022 18:58

I was just enjoying my zero alcohol Corona because I know how to rock a Friday night and offered my DD some. I didn't think it was a big deal Blush

I don't let her have fizzy drinks usually.

Probably. This is Mumsnet after all.

I feel like the PPS going off on one are the same people who managed to convince themselves they could get drunk off the "cider" ice lolly from the ice cream van when we were kids!

YourLipsMyLips · 23/09/2022 18:59

This is the kind of thing my childless brother would do because he thinks it's cool and funny.

Jennybeans401 · 23/09/2022 18:53

@Discovereads alcohol free still contains a small amount of alcohol. Why normalise it though?

Nope, beers with Zero in the name have 0.0% alcohol.

OP it's not a big deal. Small children rarely enjoy the taste of actual alcohol. It really isn't a big deal.

All the people commenting in horror here, are you drinkers?

EmeraldShamrock1 · 23/09/2022 18:59

yep i'm with your husband. Why normalise alcohol consumption?

Drinking alcohol casually and regularly with your DC present is normalising alcohol consumption.

I remember taking a finger dab of Dad's Guinness occasionally as a DC.

Was it a swig of beer?

jelly79 · 23/09/2022 19:00

Why would you?

TeeNoG · 23/09/2022 19:01

@DoIHaveTooo Actually, an alcoholic is exactly who you should be listening to. Someone who knows the root of alcohol issues and has lived experience of them.

Alcoholics aren't degenerates that you can look down on. Also, maybe they're an alcoholic in recovery?

FetlocksBlowingInTheWind · 23/09/2022 19:01

@DoIHaveTooo

That is so incredibly rude!!

Alcoholics who are sober have to be incredibly careful about what they drink.

girlmom21 · 23/09/2022 19:01

Nope, beers with Zero in the name have 0.0% alcohol. That's not true. They're allowed up to 0.05% ABV.

Its not normalising anything imho.
To be labelled ‘alcohol free’ it has to have 0.5% alcohol or less in it, meaning you’d have to drink 10 bottles of regular beer to equal the alcohol in one bottle of alcohol free beer. It’s also a quarter the % of alcohol in a Christmas pudding and half the % of alcohol in many cough syrups.

Trytoavoidthebastardbus · 23/09/2022 19:02

I used to have shandy with my Sunday dinner as a kid, never had a problem with alcohol 🙄

Thedungeondragon · 23/09/2022 19:03

I'm not sure why there is so much hysteria about a taste of alcohol free beer. It is harmless. Did she even like the taste.

Used to be a passenger in a car with no seatbelts - never died 🙄

These arguments are always stupid.

About the same amount as a ripe banana then?

Don't be ridiculous. It's effectively nothing.

Gensola · 23/09/2022 19:04

My dad let me have a sip of his fully alcoholic Guinness when I was 6 and my mum was in hospital having my brother. I thought it was disgusting and I’m not an alcoholic 😂

stillvicarinatutu · 23/09/2022 19:04

Why would you offer a 7 year old beer. ? Even alcohol free ?

It tastes pretty much the same as alcoholic beer .

If she's asked for a taste I might have let her take a sip expecting her to dislike it but to offer your 7 year old beer of any description is bonkers .

And I say this as someone who drinks . What the hell are you doing !!!?

Is this a reverse ?

StarlingsInTheRoof · 23/09/2022 19:05

I wouldn't see any issue with it. Just a soft drink that has less sugar and no artificial sweetener. Lots of things have alcohol content including fruit juice and vineyard. Can't imagine many kids would like the taste, but hardly seems like a big deal.

SpeckofDustUponMySoul · 23/09/2022 19:05

I'm a recovering alcoholic and there's no bloody way I'd do this.
