AIBU?
To think a snap general election is needed?
Laceyjumv · 23/09/2022 18:08
Liz Truss doesn't seem popular and the country seems to be going down the pan with this government
Am I being unreasonable?
AIBUYou have one vote. All votes are anonymous.
the80sweregreat · 23/09/2022 18:13
Only if Ms Truss's MPs trigger a vote of no confidence and I can't see that happening.
Laceyjumv · 23/09/2022 18:14
@the80sweregreat is that actually the only way a snap general election can be called? Does the public have no say?
the80sweregreat · 23/09/2022 18:21
I don't think the public has any say in it do they?
You could write to your MP maybe?
DenholmElliot1 · 23/09/2022 18:23
Don't worry there will be one soon enough anyway which labour will win, obviously.
All your troubles will be over then.
the80sweregreat · 23/09/2022 18:25
The Labour Party are probably horrified at having to come to power with all this going on!
I'd rather the conservatives own this : let them crash and burn. It's just sad they take us all with them, but what can we do ? Realistically?

The article tells you when a snap election can be called.
gnilliwdog · 23/09/2022 18:29
Yes, that would be great if we could get a Labour win or coalition with Greens/Lib Dem maybe. If we wait 2 years the damage could be irreparable.
GhostFromTheOtherSide · 23/09/2022 18:31
There has to be a vote of no confidence or the prime minister needs to call it.
It’s not going to happen for 2 years. And unless the Labour Party get their act together and start coming up with some policies the conservatives will win. IMO the tories will be in power for at least another term.
The thing with labour isn’t so much that people will vote conservative because “better the devil you know”, but because people know nothing about labour, because they have no clear policies, people won’t bother to vote at all. So while the conservatives might not get their vote, labour won’t get it either, so the margins won’t change.

None of the damage caused by any government has been irreparable. It might take a while but it can be fixed.
gnilliwdog · 23/09/2022 18:41
I wish Labour could make it clear what they stand for, bit I suppose they could be reluctant to put forward any policies unless an election is in the pipeline.
Laceyjumv · 23/09/2022 18:47
I didn't realise a snap general election had to be done by the MPs and prime minister; Everything seems to be getting worse and I don't usually vote labour but I just want conservative out - (I'm not a Tory voter either)
sst1234 · 23/09/2022 18:48
Yes because we haven’t had enough votes, referendums and elections in that last year. What we need is more uncertainty and political instability.
You’d have to be an idiot to not know that problems we have today is because of political short termism. Leaders making decisions for the next election rather than the next 25 years. Because long term decisions are hard and unpopular. We really need more short termism. Who needs a strong economy, high productivity, energy security.
JudgeRindersMinder · 23/09/2022 18:49
I think Keri Starmer needs to get his bloody act together before there’s any election!

I agree re process and there won’t be a snap GE atm however I don’t know about Labour definitely losing.
Tories are going for it and if they can get the middle earner maybe, but today doesn’t look like that even though there’s a lot of cuts people will remember the top cut
However it’s a while off, it may pass, so could go either way
