This is not the first time I've posted this on mumsnet but, given the responses to the Hereford mushrooms book post, I thought I'd give it one more shot.
For years I've been trying to remember the name of a book I used to repeatedly borrow from the library back in the late 70s/early to mid 80s. It was a British young adult book, narrated by a teen boy. I can't remember his name. He was in love with a girl called Julie who used to buy things off catalogue companies and give boring things like soap for Christmas. Julie fancied an ollder boy called Steve. She was cooking fish and chips for him one day and set the fish alight so rushed to the chip shop and asked them to cook the fish in breadcrumbs instead of batter so Steve would think she'd cooked it herself...
That's it - all I can remember. I have no idea why finding this book has been so important to me over the years but it's almost become a bucket-list entry!
PS My AIBU is am I unreasonable to want to find such an awful-sounding book, just in case anyone queries why I have posted here. I would prefer suggested titles though...
