To Buy Shein??

Hi, tempted to make some purchases from Shein and wondering whether anyone who’s bought from them would recommend their clothes or not?! Money’s right but really need some new winter clothes, however as Shein is so cheap I’m sceptical! Any experiences of their clothes welcomed! Thanks!

There are more than enough clothes in this world.

If money is tight, get what you need from Vinted, from eBay, from a charity shop. There are bargains galore on pieces of much higher quality.

Fast fashion is immoral and Shein is probably the worst of them all. You are actively damaging the planet and humankind by ordering from there.

Very depressing thread.

Have you ever considered that not everyone wants second hand clothes?
I wouldn't wear anyone else's cast offs.

Aretheyhavingalaugh · 23/09/2022 00:50

I was skeptical about sizing and materials, bought about 15 different tops ranging from t-shirts to vest tops to going out tops and was very pleasantly surprised, all fitted bar one. I have also been converted. Since then ordered trainers, worked out £20ish a pair, they are the more comfortable trainers I have owned, even more comfortable than the Nike Airs that cost me £135!!! Bite the bullet and give it a try

Spectre8 · 23/09/2022 01:09

I've only ever bought their cotton t-shirts and have to say its very good quality for the price. Much better than primark. I've had their cotton tshirts for a few yrs and they still look good after lots of washes

Windinthepillows · 23/09/2022 01:21

Nah. Not into funding slave labour. The clothes are shit as well.

Windinthepillows · 23/09/2022 01:25

@Stripperyone you are the root cause. Oh my god.

Mojitoo · 23/09/2022 01:51

There's always one 🙄
We know, so what!

Not just one. Thank fuck.

You don't give a shit about people working in barbaric conditions.

"So what!" What a hollow-souled, moronic response.

When you say callous crap like this, expect anyone with more than a swinging rock for a heart to push back. You smirk at people working in harrowing conditions so you can wear a shite cheap top.

I don't judge much, but I judge the fuck out of that.

Meili04 · 23/09/2022 01:51

I've had to re purchase my whole wardrobe after losing 7.5 stone. Most of it is fine the jeans seem the same as high street quality. I will say shein is good cut on me for my figure , some other stores cut frumpy. Some things I only get that are good brands like coats , shoes and underwear. In regards to washing they seem to be lasting. I do like vinted for some stuff but hard to get clothes I actually like.

ChellyT · 23/09/2022 01:57

Check the reviews on everything you are looking at. Check the description and sizing. I don't think they are misleading in their photos what I thought looked like cotton was actually polyester. Being able to upload a photo of what you're looking for is great because Shein have a lot, a lot online

Stripperyone · 23/09/2022 02:01

@Stripperyone you are the root cause. Oh my god.

What do you mean I am the root cause?

Nat6999 · 23/09/2022 02:21

I bought loads from Shein during lockdown in 2020, mainly T shirts & pjs. The quality is no worse than Primark.

user1477249785 · 23/09/2022 02:51

It's interesting to hear people say that they'd rather wear clothes made using slave labour than wear second hand.

I mean I guess we all have different moral compasses

Suzi888 · 23/09/2022 03:01

Everything five pound? I’ve not purchased anything myself but I know someone who loves it.
Seems slightly more ethical than Shein…

Like primark clothing I would think Shein clothing doesn’t last very well and ends up in the top. But with the added implication of condoning child and slave Labour. I wouldn’t feel comfortable wearing something a child has made.

Nasty plastic shit and wearing it announces to the world that you're either ignorant or an arsehole. (Possibly both. )

Highlighta · 23/09/2022 05:39

I have bought quite a lot OP. Most of the items I have been really happy with, the few misses were because I didn't read the reviews properly.

I have only bought summer wear though, I live in a hot climate so I like the light easy to wear tops and skirts they have. I initially bought from them as I could not find a particular style of something for love nor money, and they had what I was looking for. Staples like vest tops, t-shirts etc are good quality, always check the description, I buy the more pricier brands they have and always look for cotton.

For those saying buy everything 2nd hand. Sorry but there are just some things that I am not happy to, and that includes swim wear (which I have bought quite a fair amount of there ), and basics as I mentioned.

For those who don't want to support them, don't. But other people do and imo you can get great items from them with a better choice and cheaper, or you could go to H&M or a similar high street shop and get very similar items from there.

Yucca78 · 23/09/2022 06:07

We are just fucked aren't we?

MillennialFalconer · 23/09/2022 06:15

I wouldn’t, for moral and environmental reasons. I guess that makes me a snowflake. Still wouldn’t though.

That doesn't make you a snowflake

If you're used to wearing designer clothes you'll be disappointed.

If you're used to buying clothes from New Look or Primark, there's no difference.

Yes you're supporting slavery but, if Shien 'goes bust' their workers don't all of a sudden get a decent happy life, they'll be enslaved elsewhere. Slavery needs tackling at its root cause.

I've had some absolutely fantastic swimwear from them and a particular loungewear outfit that I would never take off had I the choice.

'Yes you're supporting slavery but..'

Unbelievable!

TruffleShuffles · 23/09/2022 06:26

‘Yes you’re supporting slavery but’

Jesus Christ @Stripperyone have you actually just typed that?! I mean I can understand if people are buying from SHEIN due to pure ignorance of how the items are produced but to know and not give a shit is pretty staggering.

Like a few have mentioned Vinted is brilliant for budget buys, I buy pretty much everything new with tags so most things have never even been worn. It’s great for kids clothes.

flipstic · 23/09/2022 06:28

This thread is so depressing.

I think even worse than the "so what? Don't care, am a special princess with special princess grandkids who need 75 cropped hoodies and definitely won't be affected by climate change" and "slavery would just happen elsewhere" replies are the ones giving thoughtful reviews of shein products, clearly ignoring all the issues.

No one's perfect with their consumer choices least of all me but to just pretend this conversation isn't happening and say "oh yeah, some lovely bits but sizing can be a bit off" etc is ostriching to a scary degree.

GoingThatWay · 23/09/2022 00:36

Wearing second hand is worse than actively supporting slavery? Wtf is wrong with you?

Mymoneydontjigglejiggle · 23/09/2022 06:44

I bought from shein about 2 years ago and I have to disagree that it all falls apart. Mine have washed and worn very well - I got trousers, dresses and a couple of tops. I often get compliments when wearing those things! Much like Primark, I tend to find these types of clothes last for years despite people claiming they fall apart immediately. That being said, you need to check the size guide for each, individual garment and then you need to read all the reviews which will indicate if the material is nice, if it looks like the pics and whether the size chart is accurate. The actual sizes mean nothing - I have a 'size 10' and an 'XL' from there and both fit perfectly. Don't worry about what size you'd buy here - just measure yourself with a tape measure and then use the charts they have. However, it is now well known that ethically they are dreadful so I haven't ever re-ordered.

EveSix · 23/09/2022 06:53

Really surprised st the number of people prepared to admit they support a company like Shein. But it's anonymous, I suppose.
Please try eBay pre-loved, amazing selection and you're free from contributing to all the human and environmental misery a company like Shein stands for.
