London folks: have you started putting the heating on?

Hi :)

just a light hearted thread to share experiences.

I put a little bit of heating on for 15 minutes (one pin on the boiler) this morning and felt really bad about it.

What about you?

I put it on for a couple of hours for the first time this evening. I live in a poorly insulated Edwardian flat and my feet are ice blocks despite bed socks and slipper socks. I also need some clothes to dry.

Electriq · 21/09/2022 23:32

Nope, nowhere near cold enough for heating.

Xiaoxiong · 21/09/2022 23:36

Most of our windows are open still.

stuffnthings · 21/09/2022 23:39

SW UK, windows still ajar (my room in particular as I like the cool draft, whilst tucked under during the night). Heating off for now, although I will give it a run out again over the w'end to see if the rads need further adjustment/bleeding. I love this time of year, cold/cool overnight and in the morning, but still can be warm and sunny in the day and early evening. It's perfect!

TheSecretaryBird · 21/09/2022 23:52

I’m in Scotland and it’s too warm to have the heating on

GlamGiraffe · 22/09/2022 00:03

I live in an ancient draughty house on the edge of hampstead heath (we arent permitted to make any changes to windows or insulation). I was surprised yesterday morning to find our heating had briefly come on. Our thermostats are set at 13degrees so it had obviously dropped below this, certainly on the ground floor, sometime in the early morning. I certainly hadn't intended to switch it on assuming it wouldn't be that cold in the house for quite some time yet.

BowiesJumper · 22/09/2022 06:58

No still have all the windows open!

WeCanBeHappyUnderground · 22/09/2022 07:03

I've just started keeping the back door closed most of the time and wearing a cardigan and slippers. That's plenty for now. It's chilly first thing but only for a few minutes until I've showered and dressed so I can put up with that. I'm hoping not to need the heating for at least a month yet but we shall see...

00100001 · 22/09/2022 07:05

No. Been a. Bit chilly in the evening, but nothing not solved by wearing a jumper

QueenOfWeeds · 22/09/2022 07:06

Not yet - it’s starting to get chilly in the evening but nothing a blanket and a cuddle doesn’t fix.

Our towel rail is (inexplicably) on the central heating circuit so the bathroom is really cold at the moment - if I could have just the towel rail on, I would, but holding out for now.

AuntieMarys · 22/09/2022 07:11

I'm in the North and my heating isn't on!

@QueenOfWeeds

nothing 'inexplicable' about it, it's very 'usual' and very often the rad you choose as the one you have no thermostat on.

you can get them converted to electric with a bar that slots inside, it's easy done, but you need electricity and an electrician (obviously).

I wish I'd got a dual fuel one & electrics done at the time of installation, but bathroom fitter talked me out if it, he said they could be problematic. Now it would be expensive as the big tiles would have to be removed to do the electrics & (due to same bathroom fitter) I'm not sure I'd have enough tiles if too many get broken & id have to get the plasterer back & repaint etc... too much expense & hassle now.

obviously if I had I might be wishing I hadn't if it kept causing issues 💁🏻‍♀️😂😂

I might look at a separate bathroom heater nearer an existing electric supply!! It's all I need on the winter mornings.

Jules912 · 22/09/2022 10:49

No, was very tempted as I am actually ill but curled up on the sofa with a blanket instead.

Rosehugger · 22/09/2022 10:51

I've set it to come on for a short time in the morning but it hasn't actually been on yet as it hasn't been cold enough in the house.

CulturePigeon · 22/09/2022 16:53

No, not yet. Just wearing layers indoors with proper socks and putting a blanket on the duvet at night. Hoping to go on like this for some time yet.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 22/09/2022 17:05

No, summer duvet still on and sleeping with the windows open. It did click on a couple of days ago when we had a chilly night but not since. Having heating on just encourages those little eight legged bastards to come in.

RedWingBoots · 22/09/2022 17:05

Nope.

I still have my windows wide open. I am wearing more layers indoors. I used a thin duvet last night but woke up hot in the night.
