London folks: have you started putting the heating on?

Hi :)

just a light hearted thread to share experiences.

I put a little bit of heating on for 15 minutes (one pin on the boiler) this morning and felt really bad about it.

What about you?

OP posts:
JimTheShit · 21/09/2022 21:45

No but I did put my electric blanket on last night.
I play an annual game to see how long I can go without turning on the heating. I think I made it to the end of October last year.

gogohmm · 21/09/2022 21:49

Not London, but still warm in sw

MarshaBradyo · 21/09/2022 21:50

No it’s still really mild and house is 21.6 atm

FoxyLoxSox · 21/09/2022 21:51

No, still got my summer duvet on the bed!

Did put an extra layer on the bairn tonight though.

Wafflesnsniffles · 21/09/2022 21:51

No! The temperature where Im sitting is still almost 20c. Im wearing jeans and a short sleeved t shirt. Might think about a cardi when I stand up in a mo but definitely not heating no - not until extra layers dont do the trick.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/09/2022 21:51

No, not cold enough for heating for a while I don’t think. I am in London.

shivermetimbers77 · 21/09/2022 21:52

No, my flat is still hitting 24 degrees in the night and have a fan on to sleep!

luxxlisbon · 21/09/2022 21:52

Is 15 minutes really even worth it?

No I haven’t yet and I am a cold person! It’s starting to get chillier in the mornings but it’s still very mild. I’ve only been wearing cardigans/ light jumpers into work and I’m roasting in the afternoon.

roarfeckingroarr · 21/09/2022 21:52

Nope, still have French windows open along with a window in each room wide open.

Spectre8 · 21/09/2022 21:53

No but am having to use extra blanket at night...probably should switch summer duvet to winter one but that might make me too hot

Coastalcreeksider · 21/09/2022 21:54

Put the heating 15 mins ago as I want a shower and a warm towel in about half an hour and go to bed after.

I hate a cold bathroom.

I'm south coast and was warm all day but am pathetic when I feel cold.

Olamiamore · 21/09/2022 22:02

I am far south and still think its roasting at 21 degrees today! I've got my windows open upstairs as I type.
I do get cold easily but hoping to last until well into October before the heating goes on.

eurochick · 21/09/2022 22:04

Outskirts of London and I caved today! I'd been trying to hold off until October but it was just too nippy and the washing wouldn't dry.

SeriousChild · 21/09/2022 22:05

Why would you want to? Its still T-shirt weather. I'm on the sofa in my dressing gown and I've had to take my slippers.off because I'm too hot.

LesLavandes · 21/09/2022 22:06

Nope. Too warm in Brighton

liveforsummer · 21/09/2022 22:06

I'm in Scotland, the east coast so the colder side and it's currently 16c. I'm in bed with full length pjs and a duvet (I use a winter one all year round) but definitely managing without heating so far

largeprintagathachristie · 21/09/2022 22:06

In London and haven’t needed the heating on yet. Have only just started needing to wear jumpers indoors, and that only occasionally.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/09/2022 22:07

No, although there was one chilly night where I thought the weather was changing...but then it changed back and the house hasn't been below 29° since before summer.

Parky04 · 21/09/2022 22:07

Nope. In SE and thermostat states 21.5. Heating will come on at 17.

mondaytosunday · 21/09/2022 22:07

No - today was pretty mild and the back door is wide open right now.
I did put in our gas fire twice last week though. And I think I might crack and get the duvet back on the bed.

CatHatSat · 21/09/2022 22:09

Yes, same as you 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the evening to take the chill off.

luxxlisbon · 21/09/2022 22:09

The heating martyrs of mumsnet wind me up, the ones who only turn the heating on at like 6 degrees but I seriously can’t believe there are people who use their central heating when it’s 21 and 20! I honestly never thought that was a thing.

Scuttlingherbert · 21/09/2022 22:10

Only just starting to not have the back door open all day. Baby is starting to sleep in a babygrow rather than just a nappy but still no covers (otherwise she kicks them off).
We live in a new build that is pretty well insulated but the heating is crap when is it on, tiny radiators.

Cheeselog · 21/09/2022 22:13

Not London but very nearby in Home Counties. Haven’t put it on here and didn’t even wear socks today or take a cardigan/jacket out with me, it was still warm. Windows still open most of the day as well and the house hasn’t got below 20 yet.

KingscoteStaff · 21/09/2022 22:15

In t shirts here in London, with windows/skylights open.
We normally hold on til the clocks go back - when’s that? Around Halloween?
